Bothmer News

29 October 2021

Dear Bothmer Friends,

After a longer summer break we bring you an overview of the different summer intensives, which took place all around Europe. There were so many intensive weeks and we have received so many enthusiastic reviews, that we will present them in two newsletters. Immerse yourself in the summer memories and carry them with you into the winter! At the end of winter hopefully we can open the registration for the very special international summer intensive of 2022!

Summer meeting of the Madrid training group

After some uncertainties about the conditions of entry into the country (Spain) and the rules about using the rooms due to the health crisis, the training did take place, as usual, at the Steiner School in Madrid-Las Rozas, during the second week of July, with our loyal group of about twenty people.

The main part of the morning class started every day outside with practicing the Rhythm for half an hour, in silence. Every day we put an emphasis on a particular aspect of the exercise. Then we went into the gym for the class, into the shade.

The work was oriented towards the first cycles of life: childhood and puberty, from the point of view of pedagogy. Next year the students will have to organise a group of beginners and make their first pedagogical experiences, with supervision. To do this they will first have to lead a session within the training group.

So we had talks on child development and lessons from Spanish gymnasts working as gym teachers in different Steiner schools in Spain. We also spent some time playing outside, as the weather was not too hot this year. And everyone could bring a game from his or her childhood to share with the group.

Our next session is planned for the Christmas Holidays and the Holy Nights. We will be doing projective geometry.

It is always a great joy to be able to meet and share these wonderful movements together.

Summer intensive week in Russia

From 5th to 10th July we had our summer intensive week at the Voronezh Waldorf School (Voronezh is a city almost 500 km south of Moscow). The school is in a nice area outside the city. Every day after singing, rhythms and moving together, we practiced Bothmer gymnastics in two groups.

Because the last BMI training course has completed its training in May, currently we only have postgraduates in Russia. The postgraduate group worked on two topics that were interrelated in interesting ways. During the first sessions of the morning we worked with the theme: “The transitions between the movements in the Bothmer exercises” (led by Andrej Lemekhov). In the second unit more attention was paid to the interior: the task was to find which bones and muscles are involved in the gymnastic movements and in what way? (led by Dmitry Milakov).
The beginners and interested participants worked in another group. In this group there were people who had already tried Bothmer and people who encountered Bothmer Gymnastics for the first time (led by Dmitry Milakov and Tatjana Lovcheva).
In the afternoon there were artistic activities (speech formation, dynamic drawing and massage) and then sport activities (javelin and discus throwing, dancing, games, ultimate and volleyball).

There were a total of 50 participants from different Russian cities and we had also a few children there. The hosts offered us the opportunity to have the small children in the kindergarten during the day. Everyone had fun!

It was a nice, friendly atmosphere, which we felt especially at the party on the last evening (despite the strong heat)! Many thanks to the hosts, all participants and teachers!

Snapshot Summer 2021

This year’s summer camp, like the previous ones, gave us uplifting experiences. After many months of shutdown, experiencing the creative force of community—and I am not exaggerating—has filled everyone with happiness.
The two groups—one in its second, the other one in its fourth year—worked in separate Bothmer classes, however, some interested visitors and the postgraduates joined in into both groups. I experienced the work of the fourth year, which was fascinating. We were concentrating on a captivating theme: leaving the purely physical approach. We had deep spiritual experiences. At times, one could feel a real connection to the cosmos; something we talk often about.
The afternoons were filled by art and play. We were able to choose two times a 3-day long course in the afternoon. This arrangement offered an opportunity for development. Thus, we did not only got a taste of the activities, but we could go through a process. Body percussion, tango, singing, projective geometry and juggling were offered in one block of sessions; korfball, floorball, Frisbee, orienteering and volleyball awaited us in the other.
From Tuesday to Friday optional games filled the evenings, sometimes causing quite a euphoric happiness in the group. On Monday and Saturday evenings we were able to experience the joy of being together through folk dances.
Uplifting moments and real human encounters took place side by side. We got feedback in certain situations and we were reaffirmed by fate that we were on the right track, that we had responsibilities with each other, for each other.

Thank you very much! We are grateful to all of those who made this possible for us: Laci Baditz, Anna Fehér, Róbert Gönczi, Andrea Götz, Orsolya Hegedűs, Ida Nagy, András Papp, Lars Rinas, Kornél Sajgó, Marci Szűcs, Laura Vágány, Laci Varga-Szemes
