We love Fall. We love the cool mornings, the warm afternoons and the crisp evenings.
Fall makes us feel like it’s time to plan to hunker down for the Winter, but we also think about the Spring and new beginnings.
So, what do we need to think about for the end of the year? We’re very hopeful that it will be a more normal holiday season. Will your company enjoy a holiday shutdown? If so, start letting employees know now so they can plan. If the company will require employees to use accrued vacation or PTO, make sure to include that.
And many of us are traveling again. Whether you are heading home for the holidays or taking your first trip on an airplane since the pandemic began, here are some tips to guide your journey.
As we continue to grabble with return to work and remote workers it begs the question – “Do you know where your employees are working?” Read here for questions to ask when your employees work across state lines.
How’s your handbook working for you? Traditionally we work with our clients to update handbooks in January and February. Updates are often driven by changes in the law (don’t forget that important change to the CFRA from January 2021). But the really interesting changes are driven by the needs of the business. Do your policies serve you well? Do they reflect your actual practice? Do you find yourself asking or answering the same question over and over? The answers to these types of questions will help you decide what changes to make.
What else? Do you have any exempt employees in California who earn less than $62,400? If you do, you may need to increase their salary. We can explain why.
And on the COVID front, what is the latest on vaccine mandates? The EEOC weighs on religious and pregnancy vaccine accommodations.
