Hi <<First Name>>-
Laura MullenWhew! Everyone at The Water Council took a deep breath following WEFTEC and our post-WEFTEC event in Milwaukee for overseas companies. You can read about both events below. As always, if you know of someone who could benefit from membership or should be added to our membership email list, please have them contact me.

Although WEFTEC was smaller than usual this year because of the pandemic, it was still buzzing with activity as the water technology sector convened for the first time in two years. Read our wrap-up here.

Following WEFTEC, we hosted representatives from companies in the U.K., France, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and Canada for a business development event in Milwaukee. We held roundtables, made connections, and showed off Milwaukee and our headquarters at the Global Water Center. Our international work is a vital and growing part of our mission to drive freshwater innovation.
Exciting Opportunities
We’ve kept busy since WEFTEC ended. The deadline for our fall Tech Challenge is coming up Nov. 7. This year, we have four sponsors – A. O. Smith Corporation, Badger MeterWatts Water Technologies and Xylem – and three challenge topics listed below. Selected applicants compete for a cash prize and, more importantly, get in front of the R&D teams of some of the biggest companies in water tech.
  • Technology solutions to lower operating expenses in aerobic wastewater treatment
  • IoT-enabled water quality sensors
  • Microbial control in distribution systems and buildings
We are also accepting pre-applications for our BREW 2.0 Post-Accelerator. This program, sponsored by American Family Insurance Institute for Corporate and Social Impact, Beckhoff Automation and Thales Water Advisors, focuses on late-stage water technology startups. Watch the video below or visit our website to learn more.
What’s BREWin’
One of the companies included in the video, Sentry, is also one of this month’s featured BREW 2.0 companies. Please spread the word about BREW if you know of any late-stage water tech companies that could benefit from sales and scale training.

Meet a Member
Our innovation programs often lead to even more collaboration down the road. For example, following Fixed Earth Innovation’s win in our fall 2020 Tech Challenge, it recently became a member of The Water Council and partnered with Cimbria Capital, a private equity firm focused on water and close TWC partner. Fixed Earth provides microbial expertise and ecological restoration techniques, specializing in mediation of PFAS (“forever chemicals”) and organic pollutants.
