A conversation can change a life – talking about organ and tissue donation
We're sharing what we've learned from community conversations about organ and tissue donation, and inviting you to ask questions.
One organ and tissue donor can save the lives of up to 10 people.
But for many people, having the conversation about organ donation can be difficult. It might be a hard subject to discuss with family, or it might feel like the time is never right to talk about it.
Thanks to a 2021 Community Awareness Grant from the Organ and Tissue Authority, Health Consumers’ Council has held several community conversations with Aboriginal people (including young people) and people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Backgrounds (including young people) to hear their perspectives about organ donation.
We asked what they know about organ donation, what they’d like to know, and what sorts of conversations they’ve had with family and friends about organ donation, while addressing some common myths. In this Q&A session we will share some of the learnings from these conversations and put some of the common questions from these sessions to our panellists.
We’ll hear from DonateLife WA’s Medical Director Dr Simon Towler, as well as from two consumers whose lives have been touched by organ donation.
