NOTICES
Thank you from Revd Michael Forrer

I would like to endorse the thanks in previous news, expressed by my namesake Michael S.J. I am immensely grateful to everyone for having had the opportunity to minister to the spiritual needs of the Trinity of our three congregations, working to unite our Benefice. I will continue to hold you all in my daily prayers. Your friendship and prayerful support have been exceptional over the years to my wife Jing and myself and my family. Your generous gift is also much appreciated. May God bless the Benefice now and forever in his love and service.

Climate Justice Walk
Henley - Saturday 6th November

A letter from Henley Quakers

Dear Friends in Churches Together in Henley,

If you are a supporter of Fairtrade, Christian Aid, Oxfam, UNICEF and many other charities and organisations it cannot have escaped your notice that they are all calling for results at COP26.  In particular, they and people of all denominations and faiths are demanding Climate Justice for those countries suffering the worst effects of climate change.

Quakers believe our faith does not allow us to stand by and watch at this point of crisis for humanity and the living world.  Rich countries like the U.K. have done the most to cause the climate crisis, and owe the rest of the world an immense ‘climate debt’.

It is for that reason we will be participating in the Global Day of Action for Climate Justice on Saturday 6th November, the mid-point in the COP26 summit.  We will be joining Greener Henley and others in the town on a walk from the Meeting House, Northfield End (10.30 a.m.) to the area in front of St. Mary’s Church for a respectful silence for our planet and all that dwell on it at 11 a.m.  We trust that those who are unable to walk will come direct to the church forecourt.

Henley Quakers hope that you will encourage everyone in your congregation to come with their friends and families and join us in solidarity with people all over the world who want fair solutions to this climate crisis.

In friendship,
Diana Barnett and Ruth Tod

'Tea with God' - Sunday 21st November

Our next 'Tea with God' family service is on 21st November at 4pm at Shiplake. We will be looking forwards to Advent in our worship and creative activity with glass mosaics. Tea will be served afterwards, with sausage rolls, pizza, crumpets and other delights. This is a service for everyone, invite your friends, bring your children, grandchildren, parents and grandparents along to share the joy.

If you'd like to help with these Benefice family services, let Leigh know, we would appreciate all the help we can get.
Nine Lessons and Carols - 18th December, Balliol College, Oxford
Spend a happy day preparing for, and then singing, a traditional service of Nine Lessons and Carols in the beautiful setting of Balliol College, Oxford, led by Jeff Stewart.

There will be traditional carols, as well as Morten Lauridsen’s O magnum mysterium, Paul Carr’s version of In the bleak midwinter, William Mathias' carol Sir Christèmas, Paul Ayres' setting of O little town of Bethlehem, and John Gardner’s Tomorrow shall be my dancing day.

Singers meet at 10.30 for an 11am start, rehearsing until 1pm, followed by a 2-course Christmas dinner in the college hall. Lunch will be followed by a further rehearsal until 5.30pm, and the service, complete with traditional prayers and readings, will be at 6pm. All your music, and your lunch, is included in the fee of £65 for the day.

Full details are here, contact Jeff  if you are interested in taking part in this.

With good wishes

Cynthia Hall
