The Letter From The Consulate

No. 170.
Gentofte/Copenhagen, Friday 5 November 2021
Dear reader,

First an important message in Danish:

Læs her.

Mødet afholdes i Herlev Medborgerhus, Herlevgårdsvej 18-20 2730 Herlev.

"The EU must find the political strength and will to take the decision on the technical opening of negotiations and the holding of the first Intergovernmental Conference with Albania as soon as possible", was the message from Danish politicians to Albania's Chief Negotiator for EU integration, Zef Mazi during his visit on October 28 to Copenhagen.

 Zef  Mazi and Gustavo Palares.
Mazi gave a broad overview of Albania's progress on the path of reforms in a wide range of areas, such as justice, vetting, progress in the fight against corruption, organized crime, immigration, money laundering and in other areas, and asked the hosts for recognition of the progress made and support for the EU path.
Denmark fully supports the adoption of the negotiating framework of Albania, with the conviction that EU enlargement with the countries of the Western Balkans is the right economic and geostrategic choice for the European Union.
Mazi met with the Chairman of the Foreign Policy Committee of the Danish Parliament and a member of the Presidium of the Nordic Council, Mr. Bertel Haarder, the Vice-Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on European Affairs and EU Enlargement, Mr. Henrik Møller, with  member of this committee, Mr. Christoffer Aagaard Melson, as well as with the Deputy Secretary General of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Mr. Gustavo Pallares.

Open Balkan meeting on November 4. in Belgrade.

Prime Minister Edi Rama and Deputy Prime Minister of North Macedonia Nikola Dimitrov joined the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, in Belgrade on November 3. for the next Summit within the “Open Balkans” regional co-operation initiative in the Serbian capital. Nikola Dimitrov travelled to Belgrade in replacement of North Macedonian PM Zoran Zaev, who offered on Sunday his resignation due to the loss in the municipal elections taking place in the neighboring country. Montenegrin Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapić, who was on a visit to Serbia, joined the three leaders in the official dinner of the Summit, fuelling media speculations that Montenegro may join the said regional co-operation initiative. Kosovo Minister of Foreign Affairs Donika Gërvalla Schwarz reiterated on Wednesday her country’s refusal to join the said regional initiative, saying that it was not helpful for her country.

That´s all for now,
sincerely,

Hans-Georg Nielsen
Albanian Honorary Consul
