BC launches stronger climate plan for a better future
People across B.C. have seen the effects of climate change firsthand – from the recent unprecedented heatwave to record wildfires, flooding and droughts.
We know climate change is expected to make these extreme events more common, and that’s why we are accelerating and expanding climate action to meet the urgency of the climate crisis.
Earlier this week, our government released the CleanBC Roadmap to 2030, our detailed plan to fully meet B.C.’s climate targets and set our province on the path to net-zero emissions by 2050.
The roadmap shows a clear path to how we plan on reaching our emissions targets, and establishes an all of government approach to tackling climate change. The roadmap includes targeted actions across eight pathways, including low-carbon energy, transportation, industry, buildings and more. Some of these actions include:
- a stronger price on carbon pollution to meet or exceed the federal benchmark, with supports for people and businesses;
- reducing methane emissions from the oil and gas sector by 75% by 2030 (from 2014 levels), and nearly eliminating methane emissions from oil and gas, mining, forestry and industrial wood waste by 2035;
- a nation-leading adoption of zero-emission vehicles (90% of new light-duty sales by 2030) and 100% ZEVs by 2035;
- completing B.C.’s Electric Highway by 2024 with a target of having 10,000 public EV charging stations by 2030;
- new requirements to ensure all new buildings emit zero-carbon by 2030 and the highest energy efficiency standards for new space and water heating equipment;
- accelerated mode shifts towards active transportation and public transit (increase share of trips to 30% by 2030; 40% by 2040; 50% by 2050);

Provincewide booster dose is next step in COVID-19 immunization plan
We’re working to make sure everyone maintains their sustained protection against COVID-19.More people in B.C. will start to receive invitations for a COVID-19 booster shot as the Province continues its COVID-19 immunization plan.
The plan expands to include all British Columbians 12+ beginning in January 2022.
People 70+ who are registered in the Get Vaccinated System, as well as Indigenous Peoples 12+, will soon be invited to book their booster, which will help maintain protection against COVID-19. Booster doses are underway for other priority groups, including residents of long-term care and assisted living facilities and vulnerable people living in shelters or high-risk congregate settings, and are in use as part of outbreak management.
Our focus remains on saving lives and protecting the people at the highest risk in our community first, with boosters for everyone in B.C.

Province takes aim at banning problem plastics
Protecting and preserving our environment is so important for the health and well-being of the planet and future generations. We’ve introduced new legislation that will help the Province move more quickly to remove plastic debris through phased-in provincewide product bans.
These changes are good for the environment, good for the economy and create stronger communities and a cleaner, brighter future.

Improved system coming for children and youth with complex needs
Every child should have access to the support and services they need to live a full, happy and health life.
Under the current patchwork of programs, many children and youth who are neurodiverse or have disabilities or other support needs aren’t able to access the level of care they need.
We’re taking action and creating a new service system so children, youth and their families will be able to quickly access information, expert intervention and therapies at a one-stop family connections hubs.

Total vaccine doses administered in B.C. are 8,218,844.
There are currently 4,982 active cases in British Columbia as of October 29, 2021. A total of 200,249 people who tested positive have recovered.
As of today, there have been more than 4,273,296 completed tests. Our province has adjusted testing to 815,886 people per 1,000,000.
