Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Just a quick reminder of our workshops this term, plus we are now taking bookings for 2022 Staff Development Days, and a couple of free sample videos for your pleasure.

1. Student Revision Workshops

In Week 5 (i.e. very soon), we are offering one final repeat of our HSC Exam Prep twilight student workshops for Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Also, in weeks 8 and 9 we are running Module 5 revision workshops in each of the HSC sciences (Module 1 for Science Extension) for the new Year 12s (old Y11s):

  • Primary: Working Scientifically - making Science hands-on, engaging and fun, K-6
  • Primary: K-6 Science & Technology Syllabus - collaborative planning around Science & Technology programs and scope & sequence
  • Primary: Digital Technologies - how to integrate Digital Technologies in Science & Technology and across other subjects
  • Secondary: Science RAP Analyses - collaborative scrutiny of a Science Faculty's 2021 RAP data to inform teaching and learning in 2022
  • Secondary: Working Scientifically - making 7-10 Science hands-on and engaging, and providing a firm foundation of skills for Stage 6
If you are interested in booking a Staff Development Day for next year, please contact us ASAP.

4. Free Sample Video for HSC Physics

Every year, I work with small groups of high schools from across the State to support their HSC Physics students and teachers. Using a combination of flipped videos and live Zooms, we engage Y12 Physics students in a fortnightly cycle over the whole HSC year:
  • supporting students with the more tricky content and examination technique in line with the expectations of HSC markers and the new syllabus
  • 1 flipped video per fortnight term-time:
    • every student receives their own associated ePortfolio for each video to write notes and answer a couple of questions; these are marked with feedback in a timely fashion
  • 1 video conference (VC) per fortnight term-time, in the week following the flipped video:
    • Delivered using Zoom
    • Going over relevant past paper, sample and bespoke questions with worked solutions (multiple-choice, short and extended response); eradicating common misunderstandings and mistakes
    • every student receives their own associated ePortfolio; multiple choice answers are submitted and marked online in real-time for immediate feedback and collated individually for analysis later by class teachers
    • students and teachers receive the slides and worked answers
    • VCs recorded and shared back to help with revision
    • VC protocols and expectations shared and observed
  • Module 5 covered in Term 4, Module 6 covered in Term 1, Module 7 in Term 2 and Module 8 in Term 3
We have enjoyed great success with schools over the years and now have openings for schools starting either this term ASAP or Term 1 2022. If your school(s) might be interested, please contact us ASAP.

5. Free Sample Video for Primary Schools

For a few of my client primary schools during lockdown, I have been making videos for the students on the myriad of outcomes in the NSW K-6 Science and Technology Syllabus - specifically to help students perform engaging activities at home or at school. Below is an example from Stage 3, combining Earth & Space with Digital Technologies. If your school(s) might be interested in having videos developed for you, and possibly Zoom lessons or even face-to-face delivery, please contact us.

6. Best of Luck to all HSC Students!

This past year has been tough for most people, particularly HSC students. We wish the students from our client high schools and all HSC students the very best of luck in this year's delayed exams. Also, best of luck to the HSC teachers in these next few weeks. And to parents of HSC students, you may be interested in this article published today in The Conversation40% of year 12s suffer high anxiety. At exam time, here’s what parents can do to help
I hope the return to face to face schooling is kind to you and your students. Stay safe!
