The 2021 Joel Barlow Homecoming Week begins on November 8th! The planning is underway to fill the week with spirit, music, a pep rally, and other fun events!

While most of the details will be released in the upcoming weeks, you can get a jump on the action by purchasing your OFFICIAL 2021 HOMECOMING APPAREL now!! Not only will they provide you and your family an opportunity to showcase your school pride, but by wearing any of these items to the annual Homecoming Football Game on Saturday, 11/13 (1 PM), you get into the game for FREE!

Be sure to mark your calendars because the "Tale as Old as Time" is coming soon to JBHS! Barlow Theatre invites you to "Be Our Guest" and enjoy the much-loved Disney musical on stage. Tickets will be on sale starting Monday, November 1. The link to the online ticketing platform will be sent out via ListServ. Opportunities to showcase your support for the cast and crew or feature local businesses through ads in the program must be received by Friday, October 29 and can be accessed using this link. JOEL BARLOW PRESENTS: BEAUTY AND THE BEAST - CHARACTER MEET AND GREET

As Lumiere says, "It is with deepest pride and greatest pleasure that we welcome you" to join Belle, Beast, Gaston, Lefou, Cogsworth, Lumiere, Mrs. Potts, Babette, and Madame Wardrobe for a magical morning. Enjoy listening to Belle read aloud one of her favorite books, see Gaston's trophies, get a sneak peak at the West Wing with Beast, and more! Your family can also take pictures with all your Beauty and the Beast friends!

You can bring a copy of your submission to Belle's Book Buddies Google Form for $2 off an enchanted rose. Enchanted roses will be on sale for $4. Bring your enchanted rose to the performances and help Beast at a really important moment!

Tickets: $10 per family paid by cash or check made out to Joel Barlow High School. Credit cards not accepted. Ticket price includes all the Meet and Greet activities and any pictures families wish to take on their own phones.

The 21st annual Photography Contest, due 11/6/21. Students of all ages and artistic abilities are encouraged to participate. Visit the Easton Arts Council to apply.

The Barlow PTSA is eager to have parents involved with making the JBHS community better for all our students. There are many ways to help, including many tasks that can be done completely from home. We are currently looking to fill the following committee positions:

MURALS CLUB

Wednesdays, After School
Room B106

Students are invited to join the after Murals Club which meets after school on Wednesdays in B106. Also, the fall musical, Beauty and the Beast, is also in need of a few hard-working students to help with the set design and prop painting. Students can come to see or email Mrs. Bailey in the art department with any questions.

 

THE SCHOLASTIC WRITING AWARDS ARE OPEN FOR SUBMISSIONS!

Now through December 6

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards program is the longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for creative teenagers across America and the largest source of scholarships for young artists and writers. In addition to scholarships, the program provides opportunities for recognition, exhibition, and publication. Click here for more information on the Writing Awards. Students interested in submitting writing should contact Mrs. Jarvis in the Writing Center.

VIRTUAL SCREENING OF SCREENAGERS

Join us for a special free virtual screening of the documentary Screenagers: Growing Up in a Digital Age, brought to you in partnership with Redding Elementary School, John Read Middle School PTA, Joel Barlow High School PTSA, Easton K-8 PTO and the Mark Twain Library. An award-winning film that probes into the vulnerable corners of family life and depicts struggles over social media, video games and academics. The film offers solutions on how we can help our kids navigate the digital world. The screening will be followed by a live Q&A with Dr. Delaney Ruston, physician and filmmaker. Advance registration required.

November early decision deadlines are only weeks away, and January regular decision deadlines, while they may seem distant, will creep up fast. The Writing Center can help! Seniors are encouraged to make an appointment with Mrs. Jarvis, the writing specialist, for guidance, motivation, and support – from conceptualization to refinement to final polish. Students can make an appointment online or by stopping by the Writing Center any time between 7:00 AM - 3:15 PM to schedule one.
