Thanks to all who participated in CYMC’s programs. 2021 was fun-filled and a rewarding experience. Students were able to learn via zoom as well as small in-person gatherings.
The Classical Music concert at Anderton Nursery was well attended and the efforts put forth by faculty and students made the day memorable. Starting off the day was the 2021 students presenting their pieces. Followed by three local musicians Helena Jung, the Director of the classical program, Carol Anne Parkinson, the Vocal Camp leader, and pianist Dagmar Kilian. They performed together as the Vocelliano Trio. Wrapping up with a performance by Tyson Doknjas, Kathryn Wiebe, Jessica Pickersgill, and Erin Tinney of Cascadia Strings.
2021 Jazz faculty online concert made it more accessible than ever for the community at large and we are thankful to Herman’s Jazz Club in Victoria for staging the event.
The event featured Ryan Oliver on saxophones, John Lee on bass, Ashley Wey on piano, and Hans Verhoeven on the drums. We were also honoured to have Ralph Bowen from New York city as a Masterclass presenter, an upside to COVID-19 and a great opportunity for students to learn from such a skilled and talented musician.
Musical Theatre was an intense week of performing arts workshops focused on skills building. Lori Mazey, Musical Theatre faculty head, along with workshop leaders Alex Nicoll, Carrie Lemke, Jacqui Kaesse, Scott Swan, Lindsay Sterk, Livea Gill, and Robinson Wilson worked together to create an entertaining Showcase that culminated in COVID appropriate live audience performance as well as a Livestream feed.
We look forward to 2022 and the opportunities that we can create for students and the greater community of Comox Valley. We would like to invite new board members to join our team of passionate music lovers. Our desire is to attract members of the local community with a diversity of skills and knowledge to carry on the mission of CYMC. Meetings are held once monthly and the time commitment for board members is as little or as much as you are able to offer.
