Educators, we have good news!
We are excited to announce that our collective efforts around wage theft have made some progress! After HTEC sent a public letter last week calling for action on negligence with staff compensation, Dr. Meadows responded with an acknowledgement of error and an agreement to pay out late penalties by our next pay period. We know that those penalties can help offset the financial hardships that staff are experiencing. As a union, we should all take pride in the work that made this happen. Our strength is built from supporting one another.

Are you still owed penalties for late paychecks, or experiencing any other issues with pay or benefits?
Dr. Meadows has asked you to reach out to the HR department (hr@hightechhigh.org) to resolve any payroll and benefits issues. Even if you communicated with HR previously, we recommend reaching out again now to ensure that your situation is addressed. High Tech has indicated that they were only aware of 7 staff impacted by pay issues, but we also know that 35 staff have notified the union of a combination of pay and benefit issues. We have suggested information to include below that will hopefully help expedite solutions. If you would like support from the union and CTA lawyers on following up on these issues, we recommend copying the union email (htedcollective@gmail.com) on your emails to HR.

Another way to amplify this issue:
The next meeting of the HTH board is Wednesday, October 27, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. on Zoom. See the agenda and Zoom link here. This is an important meeting for our union, as our newly elected representatives will be officially "sunshining" - sharing our list of priorities for our new contract. Our platform is High Standards for High Tech, and compensation is definitely part of that platform. Particularly if you are waiting for resolution of pay or benefit issues, it could be impactful to share your experience publicly. You can email ckip@hightechhigh.org at least 24 hours before the meeting if you wish to speak during the public comment section. If you are not comfortable speaking publicly but would like someone to read an anonymous statement on your behalf, please email us!

Please reach out if there is any other way that we can assist you. You are crucial to our schools, our students, and our communities.
In solidarity,
The High Tech Education Collective
