Watch these video for ideas and tips:

Basic Instructions for a Luminaria (or Lantern)

  • Have some clean, clear plastic bottles to use as your base.  Plastic milk jugs work, but are not transparent.
  • Cut an opening big enough (on the bottom) to get lights and shiny cellophane inside (anything with big enough top won’t need this)
  • Use clear packing tape to close the bottom
  • Make sure to keep the lights switch on the outside and tape securely.
  • Decorate the outside with sparkly ribbons, stickers, anything you want!
  • Attach a stick and/or string to your lantern and you are good to go!

There are two videos on our FB page to see examples. You can make ANYTHING into a lantern/luminaria – including yourself!

The cheap battery operated lights and something to tape them onto are all you need.
Umbrellas, walking canes, wagons, coat hangers bent into a frame and covered with saran wrap, bike helmets, bikes, soda bottles, garden trellises, ….

See the Facebook page post by Kathleen Doyle about getting some supplies. GHCA ordered 50 light strings. Anything you can carry. Anything you can tape the lights to.

Saturday night is also Dia de los Muertos.
The devils are dancing.
The lights are bouncing.
