It's release day for my new novel Writ in Blood...!

This novel has been such a long time coming that it feels kind of weird to finally have it out there in the world. Here we are at last, though – and on an appropriate date, too. It's the 140th anniversary of The Gunfight at the OK Corral, an event which looms large in the story of Tombstone, Arizona and of the people involved.

You'll find all the details of the novel below...

The Blurb v1!

Courage. Honor. Loyalty. All fine things, but they’ve led John Ringo to kill a man. He was raised right and he knows he’s not a murderer, but otherwise he’s a mystery even to himself. Doc Holliday claims to have some insights, but Doc is too devoted to Wyatt Earp to spare much attention for the man who’s already lost his soul. Which leaves Johnny Ringo prey to the distractions of a demon. Imaginary or not, if this creature abandons him, too, then surely his sanity is forfeit – and what will his life be worth then?

This Queer Weird West novel follows these three along the complex trails that lead into and out of Tombstone, Arizona in 1881.

The Contents!

Writ in Blood contains 110,000 words lovingly crafted by yours truly, and professionally polished by editor Sue Laybourn (No Stone Unturned).

It also includes five gorgeous full-page drawings by the awesome Mags Kulbicka (artgroves)!

Dianne Thies (Lyrical Lines) based her gorgeous cover design on two of Mags' drawings. The five internal artworks illustrate specific moments in the story, featuring John Ringo, Doc Holliday, Kate Elder, and Wyatt Earp. They are so beautiful! I couldn't ask for more…

Please note this is LGBTQ+ fiction (not a romance, though there’s plenty of love and friendship and sex), and well-researched historical fiction, with a side of supernatural elements.

The Blurb v2!

Courage. Honor. Loyalty. All fine things, but they’ve led John Ringo to kill a man. He was raised right and he knows he’s not a murderer, but it’s already too late. He’s lost his soul, and his demons are real.

Doc Holliday is fascinated by this man who claims to have a demon lover – the son of the Devil, no less! Doc promised himself a few months of debauchery before he meets up with his dearest friend, Wyatt Earp – and the troubled Johnny Ringo is as dissolute as Doc desires. In between times they talk, and Doc suspects that he alone can see Ringo’s complexities and help him understand himself. The affair grows dangerously close to meaning something… But Doc’s deep-seated love for Wyatt outweighs his affection for Ringo, and they part, despite Doc assuming that Wyatt will never return his feelings in kind.

Which leaves Johnny Ringo prey to his demonic distractions. Imaginary or not, if this creature abandons him, too, then surely his sanity is forfeit – and what will his life be worth then?

This novel has been a real labour of love for me, and I went all in. I would love to hear what you think of it!

Call for Submissions: Queer Weird West Tales

Despite having completed my Queer Weird West novel, Writ in Blood - frankly I just haven't had enough yet! Hence this call for submissions to a new anthology titled Queer Weird West Tales.

This hybrid subgenre requires three elements:

  • Queer: At least one main character belongs to the LGBTQ+ spectrum, defined in whatever way seems natural to them.
  • Weird: The story contains a speculative fiction element, drawing on fantasy, horror, or science fiction.
  • West: The setting is the Old West - or the time and place of any other frontier.

If that strikes a creative chord with you, the details can be found on my website here.

I'm looking forward to reading your bodacious tales!

Call for Submissions!

And I'd love for you to join my Facebook group!

I have a Facebook group for my friends, readers and fellow travellers, called Life, Libraries, Love and Knitting. We are a small group so far, with a fairly low-key dynamic - while I want to keep the atmosphere relaxed and informal, I would love for more of you to join us!

As you'll gather from the group's name, I don't intend this to be all about me and my writing, but instead about anything in life that we love, whether that's knitting or not!

Please do click the link and ask to join. As required by Facebook, there are rules to agree to and questions to answer - but seeing as that's part of their efforts to keep interactions civil, I trust you won't find it too onerous.

We'd love to see you there!

P.S. This is where I make ARCs available…
