Paul at The Palms - Pastor Paul Whitlock

Pastor Paul's Ponderings
For all the saints, who from their labors rest…

None of us arrived where we are without the help of others. It might have been parents, siblings, grandparents, or other relatives who guided us on our journey. More than likely on your list of mentors you have teachers, pastors, and or Sunday school leaders. What about friends, neighbors, and coworkers?

If you and I were to list the people who have made a positive impact on our lives, the list would be long – thanks be to God!

This Sunday in worship, we’ll be remembering our saints who have passed away since November 1 of last year. Many of us have experienced the death of family, neighbors, or church friends this past year. I’ll be listing the church members who have died and the loved ones of those who have called upon the pastors of The Palms to officiate a service.

I hope you can make a special effort to be in worship or to watch it online when it becomes available. It’s one of my favorite Sundays.

Shalom, Paul

Justice Is Not for Just Us at The Palms

The Coconut Palm
Here’s a list of real saints with my made-up reason for their sainthood.
  • Saint Exuperance  ...My guess, she was very enthusiastic.
  • Saint Vimin of Holywood   ...Holywood not to be confused with Hollywood. My top Vimin in Hollywood are on a totally different list.
  • Saint Artaxus of Syrmium  ...Any Saint name that sounds like "tax us" probably isn't going to be all that popular.
  • Saint Christina the Astonishing ...Sounds like a magician’s name or that she needs to be on that “Hollywood” list.
  • Saint John the Great Sinner  ...Finally, a saint with which I can relate.
  • Saint Vicelin, Apostle of Holstein  ...Milking that one would be udderly ridiculous.
  • Saint Rollox  ...Always on time and looking stylish.
  • Saint Olav the Thick  ...Just don't call him fat...he’s thick...not fat...thick.
  • Saint Chillen of Aubigny  ...Yep, nothing is better than Chillin' with Chillen. And finally, my favorite...
  • Our Lady of Knock  ...why is she my favorite? Well, apparently, she daydreamed a lot. To get her attention, you’d have to go, “Knock, Knock?”  (Who’s there?) Maybe she invented a whole line of jokes!

A Palm Reader's Look into the Future

If you haven't gotten your COVID-19 booster, we urge you to talk with your doctor and see if it's right for you.

This Sunday, I’ll jump off the lectionary and turn to Hebrews 11:1-4 & 12:1-2. These verses talk about the great crowd in the cloud of witnesses. We'll be listing our saints.

Remember to mask up, sanitize, and use social (holy) distancing.

These Halloween puns are so good, it's scary.
