Hi local partners,

"Have fun, be active. Ride a bike instead of driving, for example." ― Dan Buettner

If you haven’t had the chance to check out Summit Adventure Park, one of two trampoline facilities in Bellingham, go for it! Check in, get some traction socks (yours to keep), and then choose either a 60-minute, 90-minute, or even a two-hour session. Then expect to burn way more calories than you’d think, especially if you’ll be chasing a little one around! My teenage son loves dodgeball and jumping sky high to dunk a basketball before landing in the foam pit almost as much as knocking his sister or her friends off the balance beam with a foam noodle! They serve food and drinks for a reasonable price and it’s also a great option for a birthday party. Online reservations required on the weekends to keep it from being too crowded.

Cheers,
Eric

Port of Bellingham Lights up Digester Tanks and
Installs New Community Stage on Downtown Waterfront

You might have noticed the six massive steel-riveted digester tanks on Bellingham’s downtown waterfront were glowing deep-sea blue for the Seattle Kraken hockey team last month and later shined orange in celebration of Halloween. The Port has installed color-changing lights to illuminate the tanks which are 56 feet tall and 18 feet in diameter, and will soon shine red and green for Christmas

The new lights are one of many public access improvements the Port completed this year to invite the community down to the waterfront and improve safety and security. The ‘Peter Paulsen’ stage is located on the grass lawn below the digester tanks and is clad with red bricks from Georgia Pacific’s former Pulp and Paper Mill to celebrate the history of the waterfront.

Recreation Northwest Donates $100k in the 11th Hour to Complete
Whatcom Mountain Bike Coalition's Samish Way Parking Lot Project

On Saturday, October 9th, Todd Elsworth, Executive Director of Recreation Northwest, presented a check for $100,000 on behalf of an Angel donor to the Whatcom Mountain Bike Coalition (WMBC) at the Shoot the Trails fundraising event, helping to complete their goal to build a safe public parking lot on South Samish Way.

The new parking lot will make it safer for bikers and hikers to access the south entrance to Galbraith Mountain and the Padden trail networks. Since COVID, mountain biking, like other outdoor activities, has seen an explosion of growth, particularly popular among youth riders. WBMC’s after-school programs, two popular Bellingham girl’s programs, and the Vamos Outdoor Project have helped more than 200 young riders access the trails.
