Forest Management and Climate Change at the Penobscot Experimental Forest
October 27, 2021, 12-1pm, webinar (1 CFE)
October 29, 2021, 9:30-1:30pm, field tour (3 CFE) (field tours are limited to 25 persons, $20 registration includes snacks & lunch, walking through rough terrain-proper field gear required)
Join PEF USFS Research Scientist Laura Kenefic, UMaine Forest Manager Keith Kanoti, UMaine wildlife faculty Alessio Mortelliti, and MFS District Forester Kenny Fergusson to discuss forest climate adaptation and management options on a spruce-fir forest ecosystem at the Penobscot Experimental Forest, including wildlife impacts and implications for both large and small forest landowners.
The webinar panelists will present the science, research, and biodiversity of spruce-fir stand climate adaptation, followed by an open discussion with attendees. Field tour will include stops at research sites (unmanaged, high graded, even aged, uneven aged, shelterwood) where climate and market perspectives, carbon management (storage & sequestration), and biodiversity/wildlife characteristics will be discussed.
