📈 Portland’s 1987 gun violence record was broken over the weekend with a double murder in Old Town. The previous record had been 70 homicides in a single year, and 2021 has seen 72. A man and a woman were declared dead at the scene early Sunday morning, with the alleged suspect was eventually detained by officers. (KGW / KATU)
💉 Last Friday both Moderna and the Johnson & Johnson vaccines were approved for booster shots. But unless you’re 65 or older, 18+ and in a high risk group, or live / work in a high transmission environment, don’t anticipate seeing boosters immediately available here in Portland. Why? Because the Oregon Health Authority is primarily focused on getting unvaccinated Oregonians vaxxed up as a top priority to help slow the spread of the virus. (Portland Mercury / OHA)
🎥 Remember that Travel Portland tourism video over the summer? We’ll get more information on what it did for our economy this Wednesday. The nonprofit’s president Jeff Miller will sit down with Portland City Council and go over the hard data of the video, which was created in an attempt to help reposition Stumptown’s public image on a national level. This also culminated in a full page ad with sheepish language describing our city in several different newspapers in July, and it was met with mixed reviews. You’ll be able to watch the meeting through this link on Wednesday. (Portland Monthly)
❌ Speaking of city news — the Recall Ted Wheeler campaign is over after a federal judge ruled against the proponents of the movement and their request for a deadline extension to gather more signatures on Friday. The judge asked recall proponents to tell him by next week whether they want to seek a preliminary injunction or request a full trial on the merits of their case. Without a successful recall drive in place, Wheeler will remain mayor of Portland through 2024. (OregonLive / Portland Mercury)
🐈 This handsome, 10-year-old “prince” is available for you to adopt into your castle. Prince William is a sweet, 15-pound red tabby who is a total lovebug of a monarch. While he does have a few health issues to keep in mind, his profile says he’ll steal anyone’s vacant lap at the drop of a hat and that he adores cheek and chin scratches. (Oregon Humane Society)
