Fall 2021

Happy Fall everyone!  The cooler weather is here and our children have (hopefully) hit their stride being back in school in person.  For those of you who want to know more about education law, or have specific education issues regarding your clients that you want to discuss, we are holding an excellent training on this topic on November 18th at 12noon.  Education law experts Alex Corbin of McAndrews Law Office and Eliza Hirst, former Deputy Child Advocate and current Assistant Public Defender, will dive into the education issues that affect our children experiencing foster care and give you practical strategies to advocate for your clients.  Sign up for the training here.

Now let's talk the holidays!  Yes, the holiday season is fast approaching and this is a very busy time for us at OCA.  We endeavor to provide holiday gifts for every child experiencing foster care as well as to our young adults on Extended Jurisdiction.  Please be on the lookout for an email from me about how you can ensure your client receives something they want and/or need.  This is also the time of year that the Delaware Mortgage Bankers Association (DMBA) holds their annual "Holiday Jingle" event to benefit OCA's Donation fund.  Each year this event raises money that we use throughout the year so our children can have normalized experiences.  This year OCA has purchased everything from clothing/ sneakers to equine therapy to Senior portraits for our children experiencing foster care.  The event is planned to be in-person at the White Clay Creek Country Club on December 9th at 6pm.  Tickets are $50 and includes heavy hors d'oeuvres and two drink tickets.  Buy your tickets here.  If you cannot attend, or want to give more, here are some other ways you can help:
1) Ask your firm to sponsor the Jingle event at the Silver level ($250) up to the Pinnacle level ($5000).  Just email me if interested and I can send an invoice. Details are below.
2) Donate directly to OCA.  Just follow this link or send in a check.
3) Donate an item or experience for the silent auction or ask your firm or a local business to do so.

As always, I am here to support and assist you, so please reach out to me via email (Kelly.Ensslin@delaware.gov) if you have any specific questions or just want to set up a phone call to discuss your client's case.  Thanks so much for all you do!
