PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

As we move into the holiday season, I am grateful for all of the time that our council delegation puts into our activities.  It has been wonderful to have so many new members of our group and the time spent in our committee breakouts during monthly meetings has been very productive.   We’re headed into our busy time with volunteering at the Charles Schwab Cup, annual Kendra Scott event in December, Celebration of Charity providing support to A Mighty Change of Heart, and of course our activities at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

Those events are key in raising funds to support our scholarship program.  This year, we are collaborating with fraternities who have active alumni groups in the Phoenix area as well.  I look forward to seeing collegiates and alumni from our men’s groups out at the Open.  WMPO will be the kickoff for our combined efforts and we have more opportunities to support our Greek collegiate communities coming in Spring too.

Thank you to all our delegates and alternates for your time, input, creativity, and teamwork!  If you would like to get involved with Phoenix Panhellenic, please email me at president@phoenixpanhellenic.com.  Have a fabulous holiday season!

In Panhellenic Spirit,

Stacie Garlieb

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Since PPA was first asked to volunteer in concessions at the Phoenix Open in 1975, our members have been a consistent presence at the event. The event has grown as has the opportunity to volunteer to raise funds for scholarships and programming for our undergraduate and alumnae members. Our 2022 WMPO goal is to fill 600 shifts.

What’s a volunteer day like at the WMPO?

Concession volunteers are checked in at the volunteer compound by Panhellenic members, assigned a volunteer location by the concession vendor and then escorted to their tent by a Panhellenic Ambassador. During the check in process the volunteers will complete a quick alcohol safety training, get a name tag, and grab a quick breakfast. Upon arrival at the concession tent, the vendor’s tent manager will do a brief food safety training. Volunteers may end up working the register, preparing food or opening up drinks. Depending on what tent volunteers are at on the course it can get a bit hectic, especially around the 16th hole. Volunteers get a lunch break and are able to grab a free lunch and watch golf or relax and just watch the people. At the end of the shift, volunteers are welcome to enjoy the tournament. The volunteers are also welcome to attend the event again on any day after they have completed their shift.

New for 2021 is the opportunity to volunteer in concessions at the Schwab Cup Finale at Phoenix Country Club in November. This tournament is much more low key than the WMPO and can be a great alternative to volunteering at the WMPO.

If you can’t volunteer this year but would still love to participate we have other options including the Schwab Cup TICKETS Fore CHARITY program. Phoenix Panhellenic has a dedicated link where the public can purchase tickets to attend the Schwab Cup Finale at the Phoenix Country Club. 100% of the proceeds of the ticket sales come back to Phoenix Panhellenic to support our scholarship program.Tickets are $30 ANY Day Digital Grounds tickets.

CELEBRATION FOR CHARITY

A few years ago Phoenix Panhellenic found a local organization that needed stuffed animals to give to children. Our partnership with A Mighty Change of Heart has grown into a wonderful relationship as we have watched this organization grow and impact thousands of foster children in Arizona. AMCH provides personalized duffle bags to children in the foster system to take with them as they move from location to location. These duffel bags are sometimes the only belongings these children have. AMCH works to make sure the duffle bags contain essential items such as new clothes, shoes, toys, hygiene products, books and of course a stuffed animal! This year, we are offering numerous ways to support A Mighty Change of Heart. Donations of stuffed animals or funds directly to the organization. AMCH even has an Amazon Wish List you can shop from! Donations are welcome any time of the year but we do ask that all stuffed animals be delivered to Phoenix Panhellenic by the Celebration for Charity event on December 6. To learn more about A Mighty Change of Heart or make a donation directly to the organization, visit their website at https://www.amchaz.org/.

ASU's POWHER CONFERENCE

Whitney Hesiak (Alpha Sigma Tau delegate and Collegiate Relations Committee member) and Amanda Dailey (Delta Phi Epsilon and Collegiate Relations Chair) attended ASU's PowHer Conference on behalf of the Association. The two also had the opportunity to speak with collegians about the Phoenix Panhellenic Association's philanthropic activities as well as scholarships.
