Neurofeedback: Healing with Brain Waves

Dr. Tomas Ros - Researcher in the Departments of Psychiatry and Basic Neurosciences, Faculty of Medicine, UNIGE SCIENTIFIC CAFÉ - NOVEMBER 3, 2021
Focus

Initially studied for the treatment of attention deficit disorder with or without hyperactivity (ADHD), the neurofeedback technique is proving effective for many other symptoms. This non-invasive approach is based on electroencephalogram (EEG) technology, which measures and records the electrical waves produced by the brain. It is used in particular for the detection and treatment of symptoms related to irregularities in neural activity, such as ADHD, depression, anxiety, behavioural disorders and sleep disorders.

A non-invasive technique that does not involve the use of substances, neurofeedback uses the brain's own potential to adapt and "reprogram" itself as a principle.
"reprogramming". Thanks to its neural plasticity, the brain learns to modulate its electrical waves and maintain states that are conducive to its proper functioning and improved well-being.

World Mental Health Day: Perth
Every year on the 10th of October , people all around the world come together to celebrate World Mental Health Day. Our aim each year is to gather as many people as we can to enjoy the occasion, and to foster an inclusive and supportive community. For World Mental Health Day this year, we sat on North Cottesloe Beach for twenty minutes of peace and mindfulness, inspiring the community to take action on their mental health. This act encourages people to immerse themselves in nature, and find time to reflect, meditate, or just relax for a small amount of time; as this is scientifically proven to result in positive mental health outcomes. We were joined by people of all ages and background, from all over Perth who enjoyed a glorious day on North Cottesloe Beach and came together in a collective effort to inspire positive World Mental Health.
World Mental Health Day: Switzerland

In Switzerland, we invited people for a #20peace in a forest, in Fribourg Canton. We entered the forest and went to a place where people could find a space to sit in nature, isolated or in a group, as wished. Everyone was quiet, and it was a wonderful moment by the reeds, pond and trees... We did an exchange on this small peace moment, everyone in a circle. Someone said that it was so important, as a mum with so many things to do, to take some time to stop and be connected to nature. This moment touched more than one person, and we would love to reconduct it in Spring. At the end, we distributed some postcards which represented the moment we just shared, and we all had a drink together. What a great afternoon of peace and sharing!
