COLLEGE FINANCIAL AID KNIGHT - TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 16 AT 7 P.M.

Dominican is excited to be hosting our annual  College Financial Aid Knight on Tuesday,
November 16 at 7 p.m.  The event will feature a presentation by Dr. John M Baworowsky,  a financial aid expert who will answer parent questions regarding the college tuition process.

This presentation will be very useful to senior students and parents, but it is open to parents of all grade levels.  Dr. Baworowsky, Vice President for enrollment management at Marquette University, brings more than 35 years of experience in enrollment management, financial aid, international education, student affairs, and public relations.  He supervises Undergraduate Admissions at Marquette, The Office of Financial Aid the Registrar, Marquette Central, and The Office of International Education.

His presentation will cover the basics of how federal, state, and institutional financial aid work. He will provide tips on how to complete the FAFSA and how to seek your own scholarships. You will find it to be an informative and interesting presentation.

There is no RSVP needed for the event.  If you and/or your student are interested in attending please just arrive at Dominican by 7 p.m. on November 16. If you have any questions, please contact Abby Young, School Counselor at ayoung@dominicanhighschool.com.

THINKING ABOUT PURSUING A DEGREE IN ART? ATTEND A NATIONAL PORTFOLIO DAY!

If you are even thinking about the possibility of pursuing a degree in the visual arts, you should definitely attend a National Portfolio Day! This is an opportunity for students to meet with representatives from colleges accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design and is designed to help further the artistic development of young artists by bringing together experienced college representatives to review artwork and offer feedback on student work and portfolios for college admission.

This year, the NPD Association is offering a virtual meeting on Saturday, October 30 from 1-5 p.m.

You can register online and view the event information here. See Ms. Janzer with any questions!

GENERAL

STUDENT SUPERVISION OF BELONGINGS

Students are leaving their backpacks and other belongings unattended in open areas during highly attended events after school. While we have utmost faith and trust in our students and families that the personal belongings of our students are always safe from theft at Dominican, we cannot guarantee this, most especially while events are occurring at night. Parents, we ask that you please help us remind your student to be responsible and keep an eye on their belongings after their respective sport or theater practice has concluded.

AFTER-SCHOOL STUDY HALL

Dominican’s After-School Study Hall runs from 3:30PM-4:45PM  each day.  The study hall is for students that are awaiting a ride or who are waiting for an activity to begin.  By 4:45PM all students must exit the building and we ask that parents arrange for their students to be picked up by that end time.  Please note that if your student is not awaiting a ride, or is in an after-school activity that it is best that they are picked up by 3:30PM.

Please note that the After-School Study Hall will not be available on the following dates in October:

  • Friday, October 29

Please arrange for your student to exit the building at the end of the school day on these dates.  If there is an urgent need for your student to be in the building past 3:30PM on these dates please contact our Dean of Students, Vinnie Murray at vmurray@dominicanhighschool.com.  Mr. Murray would be happy to find a monitored space for a small group of students who may be awaiting a ride.

AFTERSCHOOL/EVENT STUDENT SUPERVISION AT DOMINICAN – 2021-2022

We strongly encourage all students to depart from Dominican at the conclusion of the school day at 3:05 p.m. For students who are awaiting their extra-curricular to begin or for their ride home, we are offering a supervised after-school area in our cafeteria from 3:15-4:30 p.m. At 4:30 p.m, all students will need to either report to their extra-curricular activity or exit the building.

For students who remain at Dominican more than 20 minutes following the conclusion of the 4:30 p.m. supervision period or the end time of their respective extracurricular, their respective parents will be charged a $25 supervision fee per every 20 minutes, payable to Dominican High School. We understand emergency situations occur. Parents must let the supervisor of their child’s respective activity know about a conflict with the designated pick up time as soon as possible. Parents have the discretion to instruct their child to exit the school property in lieu of being charged the supervision fee.

If your family has supervision needs past 4:30 p.m., please contact Dean of Students, Mr. Murray: vmurray@dominicanhighschool.com.
