CONNECTING ARTS & SUSTAINABILITY IN SCOTLAND

Phew!
COP26 is done and dusted; the year is nearly done and dusted, but what's patently clear is that the work - including our own - to reduce global emissions and prevent the planet from overheating is not.

So, what was it like at COP? Read our 'day in the life' guest blog in this month's newsletter to find out. Plus, watch a new short film we've co-produced with several of Scotland's leading cultural institutions.

You can also read a blog on last month's wild swim in the Outer Hebrides, the evaluation report from Cultural Adaptations, and our latest Green Tease reflections.

Our news

A very large busy of a patrician-looking man with sideburns lying on its side in a street with a woman and man standing next to it and looking towards the camera. There is a 'play button' embedded on the image.
An unprecedented collaboration between leading cultural bodies in Scotland, initiated by Creative Carbon Scotland, has resulted in the commissioning of a powerful short film. Climate action needs culture premiered during COP26, screening at a number of events including 'Is culture the untapped ally of climate policy?' in the Scotland's Climate Ambition Zone and during a COP26 civic reception at Glasgow City Council.

The partners - Creative Scotland, Historic Environment Scotland, Museums Galleries Scotland, National Galleries Scotland, the National Library of Scotland and the Scottish Library and Information Council - joined forces to deliver a unified message about the often overlooked potential of the cultural sector to fight the climate emergency.

Embracing the sea

In October, on a windswept beach in the Outer Hebrides, we held the Cùram cuain (“embrace the sea”) event for the MarPAMM – Seas of the Outer Hebrides project. The organisers - artists, Saoirse Higgins and Jonathan Ford, and project officer, Charlie Main - sent us a lovely blog after the swim and subsequent workshop.

Latest Green Tease reflections

Our 4th September in-person Green Tease - Energy politics and just transition - brought together a former oil worker, activists, researchers, climate and social justice collectives and organisations to discuss their work. Organised in collaboration with Fertile Ground.
What were the main issues discussed?

Cultural Adaptations evaluation report

The final piece of the Creative Europe-funded Cultural Adaptations project is now in place. Academics, Chris Fremantle and Leslie Mabon, who were commissioned as independent evaluators, have published their Lessons Learned report. It provides invaluable insights, findings and recommendations from which we, and any organisation embarking on adaptation projects, can draw.
