Native American Heritage Month

We acknowledge that MCC Library is on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Pennacook, also called the Merrimac, people of the Abenaki Confederacy. They are still here. We reaffirm our commitment to and responsibility for understanding and honoring the peoples and history of the land we live and work on.

November is Native American Heritage Month. This month the MCC Library is featuring a Native American History display and hosting an event from the New Hampshire Humanities Council:

Digging Into Native American History in New Hampshire

Presented by Robert Goodby, PhD.

Abenaki history has been reduced to near-invisibility as a result of conquest and a strategy of self-preservation that required many Abenaki to conceal their true identities for generations to avoid discrimination and persecution. Robert Goodby reveals archaeological evidence that shows their deep presence here, inches below the earth's surface.
