SEN. TESTER: PUT A STRONG CARBON PRICE IN BUILD BACK BETTER BILL!
Hello !

There was heartening news from Bloomberg, Saturday Nov 6, 2021, that President Biden and 49 Senators are on board for carbon pricing in the Build Back Better bill, according to a statement by Senator Whitehouse.

According to Forbes today, Tester isn't one of them!  Sen. Tester's communications director Sarah Feldman' is quoted as saying,

“Senator Tester has been presented multiple carbon tax proposals and does not support any of them. He remains committed to working with his colleagues to lower costs and cut taxes for working families, while creating good paying jobs and addressing climate change.”

Please. Call. Senator. Tester. Today.

CALL SENATOR TESTER

1.  A carbon price provides revenue which can be used to help coal miners, farmers, and ordinary Montanans during the transition to clean energy.

2. Carbon prices incentivize renewable energy, storage, and grid development, which will provide lease and tax payments to farmers and rural communities, and jobs in construction, operation and maintenance. (see the video below)

3. Carbon taxes work quickly and effectively to reduce emissions. Do not confuse it with Cap and Trade. Tell us what you don't like and it can be designed better!

4. Without a carbon price, the current climate provisions in the Build Back Better bill can't reach Biden's goal of 50% below 2005 emissions levels by 2030,
according to this Resources for the Future modeling report. This goal should be a minimum to limit warming to 1.5 C.

5. The IPCC says a carbon price is "necessary" to reach our emissions goals.

6. A carbon price with cashback will improve health by lowering emissions and making clean energy affordable! It is good for ALL Montanans!

7. A U.S. Carbon price would encourage countries without a comparable price to get one! 65 other countries have carbon pricing. (see Border carbon adjustment)

8. Carbon fee and dividend has bipartisan support in Congress (e.g., Sen. Romney and Rep. Jayapal), the business world, from scientists, and economists.

Please ask Sen. Tester:

Put a strong carbon price in the reconciliation bill!

Giving Tuesday is Nov. 30th

Support the grassroots movement that just won't quit!

Too often, political engagement stops at the ballot box. But at Citizens’ Climate, we’re changing that.

We’ve made huge strides in this non-election year, but we’re not across the finish line yet. To avoid the worst effects of climate change, we still need meaningful legislation enacted to significantly reduce emissions in the coming years. And right now, we’ve never been closer. But, we need your help.

We have a huge goal of raising $300,000 on Giving Tuesday, and $1.5 million by year-end. Can you pitch in today to get us closer to our goal and closer to a more livable planet. You can make your tax deductible donation – of any amount – online at citizensclimate.org/give.

Thank you for considering a gift to CCE at this critical moment. Every donation helps!
