Thank you to all the volunteers supporting our conservation and restoration projects this month. October is EcoBlitz planting month! We have been working to plant native vegetation in the parks to increase biodiversity, support our local pollinators, and build a wildlife corridor.
|
|
We have a few spaces left for guests to attend our upcoming DRBIPA Members Mushroom Foray. Please reply to this email if you'd like to attend. Spots are limited and "first come, first serve." Thanks for your understanding.
Sunday, November 7th 2pm-4pm
Bring your favourite umbrella and join us for a walk and talk along the trail at Derby Reach for an ecologically focused mushroom foray with our nature guide and mycologist Willoughby Arevalo. We will learn all things mushroom! Such as ID and meaning, culinary and medicinal applications, and traditional and contemporary uses.

People often ask how they can support us at the park association. Donations large and small help in so many ways. Donations ensure we can provide free educational events like guided nature walks and special community events like Heritage Apple Day. Donations also support our conservation and stewardship projects in the parks, such as invasive species removal, native vegetation planting, mapping and monitoring projects, plus so much more!
Did you know you can receive a tax receipt for your donation? If interested, you can donate to DRBIPA via Pacific Parklands Foundation HERE.

Feeding Birds Over Winter
|
|
During colder months, some birds can really benefit from feeders - bird feeders can be lifesavers! Are you planning to feed birds in your backyard this winter? If so, it's important to follow a few simple guidelines.
- Clean your feeders regularly and maintain them from ice and snow debris.
- Ensure you're using a good quality nutritious blend of food that our local birds prefer and need.
- If feeding hummingbirds, be sure to change the nectar every few days.
- Keep your feeders full, be consistent.
- Place your feeders in a safe area. High up off the ground and several feet away from tree or shrub cover is best.

|
It's International Bat Week! Bat Week is all about celebrating, understanding, and appreciating these amazing flying mammals.
