DUT HOSTS A WEBINAR PERTAINING TO TRANSFORMING OUR HERITAGE

Focused analysis of the July events was presented at the Durban University of Technology’s (DUT’s) interactive Transforming our Heritage Webinar which took place on Thursday, 21 October 2021 on Microsoft Teams.

The panellists at the webinar were Ms Kanya Padayachee (Gandhi Development Trust), Mr Nicholas Bhekis’gcino Nzama (Business Strategist: Inspirational Institute), Professor Monique Marks (Head of the Urban Futures Centre at DUT), Prof Keolebogile Motaung (Director of Technology, Transfer and Innovation at DUT), Crispin Hemson (Director of the International Centre of Nonviolence) and Prof Nceba Gqaleni, (Project Manager: Research, Innovation and Engagement at DUT).

DUT’S LEVEL SIX EDUMOVE GIVES LEARNERS THE CHANCE TO BRING THEIR ARCHITECTURAL IDEAS INTO A REALITY

The Community Engagement Office [CEO] under the DVC Research Innovation and Engagement in collaboration with the Level Six EduMove, partnered with Umkhumbane Schools Project to host an Architecture Showcasing on 14 October 2021. The event was held at Wiggins Library Hall, with over 100 attendees including learners from three different schools, which are Bonela Secondary, Umkhumbane Secondary, and Wiggins Secondary.

Since the beginning of the year, the CEO has been working with students from the Architecture, Mechanical, and Civil Engineering and Geomatics Departments to mentor and teach high school learners architectural design skills.

DUT’S PROF TWALA INAUGURATED AS A MEMBER OF THE ACADEMY OF SCIENCE OF SOUTH AFRICA

The Executive Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment and Professor in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science at the Durban University of Technology (DUT), Professor Bhekisipho Twala was recently inaugurated as a member of the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf) at the annual Awards Ceremony.

He was amongst 43 of the country’s top scholars and scientists who were honoured at this prestigious event. The inauguration was part of ASSAf’s core function, which is to honour outstanding scholars from the full spectrum of disciplines by electing them to Membership of the Academy.

DUT LAUNCHES INSETA RESEARCH CHAIR DIGITALISATION PROJECT

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) in partnership with the Insurance Sector Education and Training Authority (InSETA) launched the InSETA Research Chair in Digitalisation Project at Coastlands Musgrave on Monday, 25 October 2021.

The project is part of a five-year partnership between DUT and InSETA after signing an agreement in 2019 to establish a Research Chair in Digitalisation and a Centre of Excellence at DUT. The Chair of this project was awarded to Professor Surendra (Colin) Thakur, Director: Short Course Unit at DUT.

Facilitating the proceedings of the launch was Mr Zwakele Ngubane, DUT’s Director: Advancement and Alumni Relations.
