2022 Sibiu Cycling Tour to visit Transalpina
Set to take place from July 2-6 2022, the 12th edition of the Sibiu Cycling Tour will add another challenge to its already mountainous route. For the first time in the history of the race, a stage will start outside the county of Sibiu, in Brezoi, Vâlcea County, and lead the peloton over the famous Transalpina Mountain Road in the Parâng Mountains, located in the Southern Carpathians of Romania.

Situated right after the traditional mountaintop finishes of Păltiniș and Bâlea Lac, stage 3 of the Sibiu Cycling Tour will introduce the new climbs of Curmatura Vidrutei and Pasul Tartarau. Accumulating almost 25 kilometer of climbing before heading down a long descent on the Transalpina Road, those ascents offer an opportunity to split the field early and take back time lost on the days before.
While this new stage may hold another chance for the opportunists, the remaining days will follow a very traditional pattern. The race will start with a technical prologue through the Historic Centre of Sibiu on the first Saturday evening of July, followed by two mountaintop finishes in Păltiniș and Bâlea Lac, which have been part of the race since the very first edition in 2011. The best sprinters will get a chance to shine on the final day of the 2022 Sibiu Cycling Tour.
