Today, let's focus all our attention on beauty.
Find a quiet space. Sit up tall, and close your eyes. Set a timer for one to two minutes per movement so that you can be fully present (or increase the time if you want a longer experience).
First, pay attention to God.
Take slow, deep breaths. Focus on the spot that you feel the breath in your body. Settle into the presence of Jesus.
- As you breathe in, think, "One thing I seek..."
- As you breathe out, think, "... to gaze on the Lord's beauty" (Psalm 27:4).
Second, ponder your inner world.
Process the following with Jesus:
- What is captivating my attention right now?
- Where am I seeking beauty, awe, and wonder?
- How might I more regularly seek your beauty, Lord?
Third, prepare to love others.
Ask Jesus to help you answer the following:
- How has my search for beauty compromised or hurt my relationships?
- How might enjoying the Lord's beauty enhance and help my connections?
A closing prayer:
Lord, you're beautiful.
Underneath every longing is a desire for you.
May my desires be oriented toward, found in, and satisfied by you.
And as I desire you above all else, open my heart toward others. Captivate me to such a degree that it changes my relationships for the better.
Amen.
Peace be with you until next week,
