  2020 MY LA2050 GRANTS CHALLENGE

 WINNER UPDATES
In the last few months, we've introduced you to our newest cohort of grantees and their incredible work. Today, we wanted to take a moment and update you on the impact made by last year's My LA2050 Grants Challenge winners with their collective $1 million in grant funding.

Our 2020 grantee cohort represents the best and brightest in our region. These 25 organizations have worked tirelessly to serve Los Angeles through the challenges of COVID-19 – demonstrating incredible resilience, compassion, and kindness.

Check out a few highlights below, and head to the LA2050 Blog to read all 25 updates.
Safe Parking LA served more than 400 people experiencing vehicular homelessness with an average stay of six months and transitioned more than 100 of its clients into housing.
Public Matters directly engaged 45 University Park families in drawing attention to traffic violence and building residents’ capacity to advocate for safe, people-friendly streets.
Reading Partners provided 12,793 one-on-one virtual tutoring sessions to more than 430 students across Los Angeles with the support of nearly 500 volunteer tutors.
Creative Acts expanded its Art Attacks! program to all seven LA County Juvenile Camps and Halls, achieving 100 percent voter turnout of participants in the 2020 election.
Jenesse Center, Inc. responded to a 40 percent increase in the number of calls to its crisis hotline, most likely due to an increase stressors that lead to domestic violence incidents.
LA Forward launched the LA 101 guide to help Angelenos understand how local government really works, and how they can make a difference with their friends and neighbors.

SANDRA'S "FAVE FIVE"

SANDRA CANO | Executive Director, City Year Los Angeles

My favorite Los Angeles places and spaces...
PLAY:  LA sports have become a favorite outing, especially with all the activities within the games, whether it be the seventh-inning stretch at Dodgers Stadium or the music blasting during breaks at an LA Sparks game at Staples Center.

CREATE:  Before the pandemic, my daughter (a natural-born artist/actress/musician) and I went to see Shakespeare in the Park at the Old Zoo in Griffith Park. I'm so excited that they're up and running again! Can't wait to go again.

CONNECT:  Downtown is the home of gathering to share your voice! Walking the streets of Grand, Hope, Hill, and many others marching with like-minded folx as we bring light to important causes.

LEARN:  Having received my Bachelor's and Doctorate Degrees at UCLA makes me a little biased to learning in LA. Even as I walk on campus or share a snack with the aggressive squirrels at the foot of Janss Steps, I feel the rush of all those days learning and engaging in intriguing conversations with my colleagues.

LIVE:  Nothing beats lugging a cooler, picnic basket, and sand toys with my niece and nephews or family friends at one of our many beaches. I am always taken aback when I speak to folx from other states that have never seen the ocean. So much in LA that we can't take for granted!
