Artist Wanted for East Harriet Farmstead Minneapolis Neighborhood Storm
Drain Mural Project (Painting Spring/Summer 2022)

We are looking to hire an artist (or artist team) to partner on a collaborative year-long initiative to raise awareness about water quality and build community connections. The selected artist will design and implement a storm drain mural (approximately 5’ x 6’) street/sidewalk painting. This will be the first such project in the City of Minneapolis and will be subject to approval through the City’s Public Arts Advisory Panel and Minneapolis Arts Commission and conditional upon receiving necessary permits through City of Minneapolis Public Works Department. EHFNA was inspired by others in the metro who have successfully executed community-based storm drain murals in recent years, including Friends of the Mississippi River and Minnesota Water Stewards

EHFNA wants to use this project to create opportunities for artists of color and advance the neighborhood’s equity engagement plan; those who identify as Black, Indigenous, Latinx, or artists of color are strongly encouraged to apply, as are renters and seniors in the neighborhood.

Review our Request for Qualifications document
HERE for more information about Project Collaboration Basics and Timeline, Funding, and Artist Selection Criteria.
To apply, please complete the online form below by Friday, November 12, 2021. Artist selection will occur before the end of November and the contract will be signed by the end of 2021.  Contact info@eastharriet.org with questions.

East Harriet Connectors brainstorming meeting coming soon!

Email info@eastharriet.org if you would like to join in on creating a network of East Harriet Residents new to the neighborhood and long-timers who are interested in getting to know other neighbors and who believe that when we are supporting each other in community we have the potential to create a safe and healthy city. We welcome both new and long-time residents! Our hope is that EH Connectors will be the link to residents who are most difficult to reach but deserve to be informed, heard and supported.

We are hoping to start a “Snow Buddies” program that will pair residents that are physically unable to shovel with volunteers who would like to help those residents.

Learn more about the EHFNA Committees

Committee volunteers are needed for just two to three hours a month. If you've looked into EHFNA committees before, check it out again to see what's different. Here are the three new committees and an outline of their areas of focus:

Neighborhood Engagement - This committee will focus on events and outreach. The events include (in a normal year) Fall Fest, the Kite Festival, Happy Hours and a tent at Lyndale Open Streets. In 2021, there may be more online classes and events being organized - what are your ideas? The outreach portion of this committee plans to focus on an EHFNA logo update and rebrand. A crucial goal for this committee is to make sure all residents and business owners are informed about what's happening in the neighborhood.

Neighborhood Engagement
7pm, the 3rd Tuesday of each month

2) Community Partnerships - This committee plans to engage with the neighborhood by forming and maintaining important partnerships. One of these partnerships will be created through a new and exciting block captain program. Join this committee to lay the groundwork for how that program will work. Other valuable partnerships will include East Harriet schools, businesses, the South West Business Association as well as other partnership opportunities as they emerge.

Community Partnerships
7pm, the 3rd Wednesday of each month

3) Green Spaces and Places - This committee will be the Green Team of East Harriet, handling environmental concerns and neighborhood clean-up events. They will also work with MPRB for improvements and events in our neighborhood parks. Last but not least, they will manage the places of our neighborhood by working on zoning issues as they arise.

Green Spaces and Places
7pm, the 2nd Tuesday of each month

All EHFNA committee meetings are currently held as Zoom video conferences. If you are interested in attending the meeting, please contact info@eastharriet.org in advance for the meeting link.
