Welcome Appalachian Leadership Institute Fellows!

This week, we are thrilled to host orientation for the Appalachian Leadership Institute's newest fellows!

Over the next nine months, these leaders from all 13 Appalachian states will develop skills, hear expert speakers, exchange ideas, and ultimately be empowered to take actions that will strengthen Appalachia's future.

During their orientation session, fellows formed teams for the duration of the program, developed visions for the Appalachian Region, took a virtual trip to Appalachian Georgia, had a fireside chat with Black in Appalachia host Dr. Enkeshi El-Amin, and more.

Appalachia Envisioned:
Building Community Leaders and Capacity

One of the five refreshed investment priorities in ARC's new strategic plan is Building Community Leaders and Capacity.

Behind strong communities are passionate leaders with the capacity to innovate, collaborate, and create change. This is exactly why ARC launched the Appalachian Leadership Institute!

The program is designed to help leaders, from all walks of life, develop those skills.

Earlier this month, Appalachian Leadership Institute alumni joined us at ARC's Annual Conference, Appalachia Envisioned.

Watch this panel discussion to learn more about how they are taking lessons learned through the program to better serve and strengthen communities across Appalachia.

ARC Partners Share Community Stories

ARC partners across the Region are working to build capacity in Appalachia. Check out the videos below for real time examples of how Appalachian leaders are strengthening their communities and fostering a new era of opportunity.

In Eastern Kentucky, Shaping Our Appalachian Region is championing local projects, programs, and advocacy to rally communities filling the economic gaps left by the decline of the coal industry.

And in West Virginia, The Hub is connecting communities to the network of resources available across the state to grow the overall economic development system. This Hinton documentary showcases how the community is redefining economy building for the future.
