Happy Thursday! There may only be a few days left in Maths Week, but things are heating up. Check out our adult event this evening with comedian & broadcaster Colm O'Regan, which will look at the maths of climate change and other burning issues.

Maths Week on RTE's News2Day 
Lumcloon NS in Co. Offaly featured on Tuesday's News2Day with their pumpkin-themed maths week activities. Well done to the staff and pupils for showing how maths can be fun for all! Watch the show here. 
Colm O’Regan is at it again. The award winning comedian, author and broadcaster is back again and this year Colm turns his attention to some everyday objects to show us slightly stranger things.

Dara Ó Briain receives Maths Week Ireland Award

Comedian and science enthusiast Dara Ó Briain has been given the 2021 Maths Week Ireland award for his lifelong contribution to raising public awareness of maths.

The award is presented annually during Maths Week Ireland, a festival of maths and numeracy, which is taking place this week. Ó Briain received it during an online ceremony. 

Ó Briain said he was flattered and privileged to receive this award. “Maths Week itself is a great initiative as it shows us maths and numeracy are for everyone regardless of your level of proficiency...it’s incredible to see the huge numbers participating".

You know 2 + 2 comes to the same as 2 x 2. Now find a set of three different whole numbers whose sum is equal to their total when multiplied.

Wednesday's Solution:
One way to solve this math riddle is to use even numbers:
The older brother will be twice as old as his younger brother in three years’ time. This immediately rules out the older brother currently being 8, 11, and 14, so he must be 17, and the younger brother 7. Two years ago, they were 15 and 5 respectively, and in three years’ time, they will be 20 and 10.
