The Ordinary Ways of an Extraordinary God
By now – either in your small group or in the mail – each family should have received a copy of The Ordinary Ways of God, a daily devotion book by David Roseberry. This is a daily devotion that will take us through the Old Testament book of Ruth. The characters in the book of Ruth experience pestilence, death of loved-ones, loss of income, fear, hopelessness, and despair. Sounds familiar, doesn’t it? But through the difficulties, our extraordinary God works through the ordinary lives of the ordinary characters of the story to do some extraordinary things.
Our church family will begin to read The Ordinary Ways of God daily devotion together on Thursday, October 21. In preparation, please go ahead and read the Old Testament book of Ruth in your Bibles. Ruth is short and sweet – it’s only 4 chapters with a total of 85 verses. You can probably read the whole thing in less than 10 minutes. But it will be 10 minutes well-spent in God’s Word. The devotions are also short. You can probably read each devotion in 5-10 minutes. But again, this will be time well-spent. On Thursday, October 21, please read the Introduction, the Prologue, and Chapter 1. Each day afterwards, read one devotion a day. We will finish the devotion together on Sunday, November 14.
As you read, I hope you will see how God works in the ordinary lives of the main characters: Ruth, Naomi, and Boaz. I think you will also be reminded how God works in the ordinary ways of your life because He loves you extraordinarily! Happy reading.

Congratulations to The Very Rev. Chip Edgar (pictured above with his wife Beth). On Saturday, October 16, 2021, Chip was elected the Bishop Coadjutor of The Anglican Diocese of South Carolina. Once the election is certified by the College of Bishops of the Anglican Church in North America in January, 2022, Chip will be consecrated a bishop on March 12, 2022. He will serve as a Coadjutor (an assisting bishop) for a period of time and then will become our bishop when Bishop Mark Lawrence officially retires in 2022. God bless this new ministry!
Reminder! There is an opportunity to serve the community on Friday, October 22, at the Conway Recreation Center. We have been asked to help with the Food Distribution that will be taking place. Please come by the Rec Center by 8:00 a.m. Many hands make light work!
October 16th special Electing Convention
– from your representatives
As the Anglican Diocese of South Carolina’s website reports: “Mt. Pleasant, S.C. (October 16, 2021) – Today, during a special Electing Convention held at Christ Church in Mt. Pleasant, the Very Rev. Chip Edgar was elected Bishop Coadjutor of the Anglican Diocese of South Carolina.”
However, that is not the whole story. First, our own Jason Collins was called to not only serve on the Bishop’s search committee, but to lead it. It goes without saying he led the committee well as they spent months with the process then presented three outstanding candidates. As your representatives we began to learn as much as we could about the candidates. The diocese provided biographies, resumes, videos and what was called Walkabouts where we could meet the candidates. Plus, they videotaped all the Walkabouts that we did not attend, giving us more information. In addition, they made all of this information available to anyone on the website.
We prayed, studied, discussed, listened, provided a session after church to attain the congregation’s knowledge and desires. Then we prayed studied, discussed and prayed again. Knowing God had this handled. We attended the convention with enthusiasm and joy. As a matter of fact, everyone we encountered had the same enthusiasm and joy.
After three rounds the Very Rev. Chip Edgar was elected. To our delight, Jason asked him and his wife Beth to join us for lunch. It was a great honor to get to know him and his wife and will be a great memory for a long time.

October is Liver Cancer Awareness Month
Five Facts about Liver Cancer
(always confer with a registered/certified medical professional)
1. Symptoms: May include loss of appetite, losing weight without trying, upper abdominal pain, general weakness and fatigue, yellow discoloration of skin and whites of your eyes (jaundice).
2. Risk factors: diabetes, obesity, cirrhosis, excessive alcohol consumption (men: 15+ drinks a week; women: 8+ drinks a week), infection by hepatitis C, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
3. Purpose: The liver constantly filters the blood to remove toxins and converts medications and nutrients into ready-to-use chemicals for the body.
4. Gender: Men are 3 times more likely to get liver cancer than women, and men are twice as likely to die from it than women.
5. Statistics: The American Cancer Society records average 42,200 cases diagnosed yearly, and 30,230 die of liver cancer each year. In South Carolina there are on average 760 new cases yearly and 580 deaths each year.
