WORSHIP WITH US THIS MORNING!

22nd Sunday after Pentecost

Can we pray the way Bartimaeus prays? People try to hush him up because by addressing Jesus as “Son of David” he is making a politically dangerous claim that Jesus is the rightful king. Could our prayers ever be heard as a threat to unjust powers that be? Bartimaeus won’t give up or go away quietly, but repeats his call for help more loudly. Do we ask so boldly? And are our prayers an honest answer to Jesus’ question, “What do you want me to do for you?” -- from Sundays & Seasons

Readings: Psalm 126 // Mark 10:46-52

Sunday Adult Learning Time (SALT) October Series
Short Conversations for Deeper Reflection on Racism continues today!
Today, at 11 am in the Trinity Room, is our 4th and final class on racism. Our leader, Rachel, has sent along the videos and questions below for us to ponder as we prepare for this session. The Racial Justice Work Group wants to thank all who have participated in these sessions, hoping that they have been of value to you in your own learning about racism and white privilege.

Homework for this session:
  1. Watch Racism is Real (3 minutes)
  2. Watch Black men face economic disadvantages even if they start out in wealthier households (7 minutes)
  3. Answer these questions:
  • What are your thoughts as you factor in all the examples of different environments where race matters? Did any of the examples shift your own definition of “systemic racism”
  • As you work to break old habits and barriers and create new opportunities, how will you define success?
  • As you think about your role in racial justice work moving forward, what are you most overwhelmed by? What seems most obvious or simple?
Reflection questions from last session:
  1. How have economic repercussions of racism impacted (or not impacted) your education, employment, compensation and benefits, mortgage and credit, family wealth and inheritance, social networking and business connections, and health care?
  2. Write about a time you became aware of the income level of your family and the impact it had on your life and opportunities. How do you imagine your experience would be different had you been a different race at that same income or economic level?
Have questions or need help making a one-time or reoccurring donation? Call the CtK office at 651-633-4674 or email info@lifeatctk.org for assistance. We appreciate your generosity and support!
Update on the Pastoral Transition Process
The Church Council meeting for the month of October focused on the Pastoral Transition Process.  Our plan is to share weekly updates with the Congregation.  It has been just over a week that we have known that Pastor Peter and Pastor John have been called to other ministries.  However, some steps in the process have already started, and others will continue in the days, weeks and months ahead.  As we listened to Deacon Krista Lind, Assistant to the Bishop, who is assigned to work with CtK in this process, the familiar saying it is a marathon, not a sprint came to my mind.

Pastoral Transition Process this week:
  • Council met with Deacon Krista Lind to learn about the call process.
  • Pastor John met with a team for his exit interview.
  • A team is being formed to lead the planning for Pastor John's Farewell Celebration.
Next Steps:
  • Hold an exit interview with Pastor Peter.
  • Start planning for Pastor Peter's Farewell Celebration.
  • Begin planning for, interviewing and securing interim pastors with help from the St. Paul Area Synod.
Celebrate CtK’s Jubilee by Going Solar
By Joanne Zenz

Exciting things are happening at Christ the King. It’s our Jubilee and we are celebrating 60 years in ministry together. The founders of CtK had a long-term vision and made long-term investments setting the stage for the amazing things that have happened in doing God’s work over the years.

We now look forward to the next 60 years of CtK. Long-term vision and investment will again set the stage for CtK to continue to do God’s work.

We have an opportunity to make a long-term investment in solar energy, reducing energy costs and preserving the environment that God gave us for the next 30+ years. As Christians, we need to care for God’s creation and preserve the environment for future generations at Christ the King.

The Property Committee of Christ the King, of which I am a member, has spent countless hours in the last few years reducing energy costs. We are stewards of a large church building with many lights, furnaces, and air conditioners. In response, we have installed energy-efficient LED lights, put timers on bathroom and hallway lights, and replaced HVAC systems with higher efficiency models.

After thorough study by the Property Committee, we see solar as a long-term investment we need to make to further reduce energy costs and help our environment. Let’s take the next step in Christ the King’s future and celebrate our Jubilee by going SOLAR! Please attend the congregational meeting on November 7 and vote in favor of this exciting project.

Share your story!
As we approach our 60th anniversary as a church, we'd love to hear about your experiences of Jubilee at Christ the King. Here are some questions to think about as you consider what story you might share:
  1. In your experience at CtK, what is one good thing from our past church life that looks much different than it used to—but is still good and helpful now?
  2. Starting from both a firm foundation and a relatively “clean slate,” how might God be calling us to ministry in the future and for what purpose?
  3. What fellow member at CtK, or what ministry program or special event, from the past continues to impact your discipleship or ministry today?
Submit your story and find out more information by emailing Nick at nick@lifeatctk.org.
