With winter upon us here are some clever ways to remain active through the winter. Look for ingenious ways to incorporate exercises into things you are already doing like brushing your teeth, showering, during TV commercials, radio ads or while you are cooking.
For example:
- squats or calf raises while brushing your teeth
- take 2 stairs at a time or run the stairs
- lunges down the hallway or through your kitchen
- push ups off your counter, bed or sofa
- 10 jumping jacks or knee raises every time you go up or down the stairs
- Plank off your mattress or couch
- Play music and dance
We tend to hibernate more once the temperature drops however if you bundle up go outside for a walk especially during the Christmas season to see all the lights. Don’t forget your heart and lungs are muscles and need some love. Give raking, snow shoveling, ice skating, tobogganing, skiing and snow shoeing a try. Adding a few exercises throughout your day can really add up to a lot of reps and minutes over the course of your week.
(10 squats every time you brush your teeth = 20/day – 140 squats/week WOW!!)
