The Tubac Historical Society is delighted to celebrate the new season with a “Breakfast with History” presentation that will take place on November 16, 2021 in the old schoolhouse in the Presidio from 8:30 am – 10 am. 
 
Our featured speaker will be Historical Society Board Member, Steve Gastellum, who will share his family’s moving story of being evicted from their homestead by U. S. Marshals when the Supreme Court invalidated the Tumacácori land grant as a result of a land exchange titled Baca Float No.3.
 
Baca Float No.3 was one of five 100,000 - acre grants made to the Baca family, in exchange for land taken from them in New Mexico.   The land in Arizona was supposed to be unoccupied and non-mineral bearing land; however, the enormous square included parts of Tubac and all of Tumacácori and Calabasas, and overlapped with the Tumacácori, Calabasas and Sonoita land grants.  These grants had allowed 190 settler families to purchase, occupy and improve the land - people who were uprooted and dispossessed.
 
Steve’s talk will include a tour of a new exhibit on Baca Float No. 3 titled, “With Reckless Indifference”.
 
Space is limited. Tickets are $30 each and include admission to the Presidio.  They may be purchased online at the THS website, ths-tubac.org.  Tickets must be purchased by November 8, 2021; no tickets will be sold at the door.  Please remember, masks are optional.
