‘The Crown’
“Charcoal is basically compressed ash. When I was thinking about a creating a charcoal of Jesus I just had this vision of Him almost rising out of the ashes.
The song lyric ‘hope rising from the ashes’ was in my head. The fact it was charcoal was quite symbolic.
The gold leaf was not something I had planned on but became an idea while creating. It really made the drawing come alive.” - Samornè
Featured Artist:
Samornè is a South African painter based in Nashville. She specializes in charcoal, acrylic and oil paintings. Growing up in South Africa she describes her childhood as challenging. Drawing intrigued her and was the one thing she found solace in and a form of therapy.

Samornè chose to start a full-time art career in 2011 after settling with her family in Nashville Tennessee. She draws inspiration from her faith and her heritage spending many holidays with her grandparents surrounded by the untamed beauty of Africa. While growing up and seeing the life disadvantage children live she has always wanted to draw attention through her work to the plight of children globally. Young kids with beautiful dreams and imagination but little hope.

Samornè feels her purpose as an artist is to inspire people to pursue their dreams.

She has had numerous paintings in Kirkland’s stores nationwide, Hobby Lobby & The Scott brothers. You can see more of her paintings on her Instagram @samorneart
