Funding News
Faith Funds

National Churches Trust
Gateway Grant Programme


Grants of between £3,000 and £10,000 are available to listed and unlisted Christian places of worship, of any denomination, across the UK towards developing a church building project. This includes Churches, Chapels and Meeting Houses. Funding can also be used for urgent and essential maintenance and repair projects. The National Churches Trust’s Gateway Grant Programme also offers grants of between £3,000 and £10,000 to local church trusts to fund projects that support organisational development, increase their capacity to support churches in their area. All grants will represent a maximum of 50% of the net project costs. The deadline for applications is midnight on the 13th January 2022.

Morris Fund


Grants of between £500 and £5,000 are available to churches, chapels and other places of worship built before 1896 to carry out small programmes of conservation work to decorative features and monuments. All work funded must be directed by a professional architect or established conservator and completed according to the principles of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB). The funding is being made available through the William and Jane Morris Fund. Applications can be submitted at any time however the next closing date for applications is the 31st March 2022.

Childs Charitable Trust

The Childs Charitable Trust offers grants to registered and excepted Christian charities based in the UK and operating in countries worldwide. Projects will be considered that fall into the following categories: Working in schools and with vulnerable and disengaged young people in the UK: All aspects of Christian outreach: Society i.e. social action and justice: All areas of Christian education. No minimum or maximum grant level is published, awards are made according to the values of the Trust and are based on the Christian faith. The primary focus for grants allocated in 2021 will be on those organisations that actively share the Christian gospel in their work.

Community Funds

Aviva Community Fund

Small charities, schools and community interest groups with innovative ideas that benefit their community can apply for funding of up to £50,000 for projects that promote healthy, thriving communities by preventing, preparing for and protecting against the impacts of climate change; and help people to take control of their wellbeing by giving them the tools to be more financially resilient and independent. The funding is being made available through the Aviva Community Fund. Every three months from January onwards, £250,000 will be split equally among Aviva’s UK employees to donate to the projects that matter to them most. Once applications have been submitted, applicants will need to create a fundraising page on Crowdfunder that Aviva employees can browse and donate funds to. Applicants can also showcase their projects to raise additional public donations. The next closing date for applications is the 1st February 2022.

Co-operative Dividend Fund


Grants of between £100 and £5,000 are available for projects that aim to develop and improve communities. The funding is being made available through the Central England Co-operative Dividend Fund and is available to good causes, community groups, charities and social enterprises in central England that are full members of the Central England Co-operative. The types of projects supported include access to healthy food; health and wellbeing projects; inclusion of vulnerable, excluded, or hard to reach groups; and the environment such as energy saving projects, sustainable travel, biodiversity and food security. The deadline for applications is the 30th November 2021.

Community Housing Fund Revenue Programme 2021/2022
 

The Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government has launched a new £4 million grant programme to increase community-led affordable housing. The Community Housing Fund Revenue Programme 2021 to 2022 will allow community-led housing groups in England (outside of the Greater London Authority area) to take responsibility for local housebuilding and help them to deliver housing that is affordable locally and remains under the control of the community. The grant will fund later stage pre-development and will help community groups meet a range of costs incurred such as paying for searches, administration costs, legal advice, design work and planning applications. The fund will remain open to applications until the 31st December 2021 or until all funds are allocated, whichever occurs first.

FCC Community Action Fund


Registered charities, churches, parish councils, local authorities and CASC registered sports clubs can apply for grants of between £2,000 and £100,000 for the provision, maintenance or improvement of community facilities. This can include village halls and community centres, public play areas; publicly available multi use games areas, skate parks and BMX tracks; sport and recreation grounds including pavilions and clubhouses with full public access; churches – community spaces only; nature reserves; public gardens, parks, country parks and woodlands with at least dawn to dusk access; and Museums. The funding is being made available through the FCC Community Action Fund and is available to projects located within 10 miles of an eligible FCC Environment site.
Round 4 of the Community Action Fund will open for applications on the 15th September 2021 and close at 5 pm on the 1st December 2021.

The Ocado Foundation For Good UK

The Ocado Foundation, the charitable arm of Ocado Group is working with BizGive, to support charity and fundraising activities across the UK. The Foundation will give grants of up to £1,000 to charities, community organisations, community interest companies, academic institutions, and local authorities for community projects which focus their efforts on three core areas skills for the future, natural resources and responsible sourcing. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, for volunteering, only applications for digital volunteering will be accepted.
Applications can be made at any time until the 31st December 2021.

Environmental and Conservation Funds

IGas Community Energy Fund - England

IGas Energy Plc is one of the UK's leading onshore hydrocarbon producers has announced that its Community Energy Fund has opened for applications. The fund covers specific areas of Hampshire, Surrey, West Sussex and Lincolnshire where the company operates. IGas support projects that make a difference to life in the mainly rural communities where they operate. Organisations that are eligible to apply include community and voluntary organisations as well as local schools. Applicants will need to demonstrate need for their project, real community benefits and value for money. IGas need initial expressions of interest in order to register projects and then require submission of full applications by the 31st January 2022.

Aviva Climate Fund


Aviva has launched a new Aviva Climate Fund to run along side its established Aviva Community Fund. During the last funding round of 2021, Aviva will be awarding £150,000 to projects addressing climate change. Aviva has teamed up with the fundraising platform Crowdfunder and will match each donation, given by Aviva employees and the general public, up to the value of £50 between the 26th October 2021 and 7th December 2021, or until the entire £150,000 is allocated. For projects to be eligible they will need to either help prevent or reduce the impacts of climate change, and / or help prepare people and places for climate change impact, through education and recovery planning. To receive match funding applicants will need to create a fundraising page on Crowdfunder and apply to the Aviva Climate Fund by 5 October 2021 and be approved to be part of the Aviva Climate Fund. ‘All Or Nothing’ projects must reach their target to receive match funding. A maximum of £50,000 of match funding is available per organisation.

International Tree Foundation 
UK Community Tree Planting Programme


Schools, community groups and non-governmental organisations within the UK can apply for grants of up to £6,000 for community-led tree-planting projects. Through the UK Community Tree Planting Programme, the International Tree Foundation aims to conserve, restore and protect the UK’s native species whilst raising communal awareness of the importance of trees and forests to both the environment and human well-being. Organisations must plant a minimum of 50 trees per £1,000 of grant funding on publicly accessible land including schools, parks, rights of way, and sites managed by community groups, or regenerate land for the benefit of trees and local wildlife. Applications can be submitted at any time until the 16th December 2021.

The Woodland Trust

Schools, nurseries, colleges, universities, and other groups such as resident associations, sports clubs, parish councils, scouts, guides are amongst the organisations eligible to apply for up to 420 trees to improve their local environment. Tree packs available include hedging, copse, wild harvest, year round colour, working wood, wild wood and urban trees. The Woodland Trust is currently taking applications for trees to be delivered in March 2022.

The National Lottery Community Fund – Together For our Planet Fund


Ahead of the COP26 Climate Change Conference (COP26), in Glasgow this November a new fund has been launched to support communities and schools across the UK take action on climate change. Grants of between £1,000 and £10,000 are available to support community projects covering areas such as food, transport, energy, waste and consumption and the natural environment. The funding is being made available through the National Lottery Community Fund’s Together for Our Planet Fund.
The National Lottery Community Fund expects to make 400 – 500 grants.
The closing date for applications is 5pm on the 18th November 2021.

The Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust
 

To address climate change and its effects, organisations, individuals and charities can apply for grants to support projects that develop and promote sustainable, low-carbon alternatives to the current consumerist and growth-based economic model. Grants are available for projects that address the current unsustainable economic system; excessive consumerism; giving marginalised groups and young activists a voice; and responding to the dual harms of Covid-19 and systemic racism. Previous grants awarded have ranged from a few hundred pounds to grants in excess of £100,000. The funding is being made available through the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust – Sustainable Futures programme will fund campaigns, initiatives and projects that promote alternatives to consumerism and give a voice to young activists and marginalised groups on issues of economic and environmental justice. The deadline to apply is 5pm on the 29th November 2021.

Learning Through Landscapes - Local School Nature Grants Programme
 

Schools in England, Scotland and Wales can apply for up to £500 worth of free outdoor equipment and two hours of professional outdoor training to help children connect with nature, become more active, and learn outdoors. Schools can choose from hundreds of different products to deliver outdoor learning and play. The funding is being made available through phase five of the charity Learning through Landscapes’ Local School Nature Grant scheme, and is funded by the players of People’s Postcode Lottery. This year, funding will also be open to Early Year’s settings which have their own building and more than five staff. There will be four funding rounds throughout the year. 
The closing date for applications for round 4 is the 12th November 2021.

Sport Funds


Sport England - Active Together Fund

Sport England are making a further £20 million in funding available to help tackle inequalities in physical activity levels as the country continues its recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic. The Together Fund will help community organisations to recover and grow and enable them to reach and engage communities disproportionately affected by the pandemic to become active or get more active. This includes lower socio-economic groups, culturally diverse communities, disabled people and those with long-term health conditions. Sport England will work with a network of 42 Active Partnerships and more than 30 national partners to award funding locally. Community organisations wishing to engage in the Together Fund should make contact with their local Active Partnership.

Ron Pickering Memorial Fund

Talented able bodied and disabled British track and field athletes between 15 and 23 years old that are in financial need can now apply for funding from the Ron Pickering Memorial Fund. The fund exclusively supports young and deserving applicants in the sport of Athletics. Since the fund was introduced a total of £2million has been awarded in small but significant grants to several thousand young British Athletes. Each grant is designed to make a difference, helping the recipients make the difficult transition from junior to senior level through support for equipment, specialist coaching or travel and importantly help build the athletes’ confidence and self-esteem through recognition. No minimum or maximum funding amounts are specified. The closing date for applications is the 30th November 2021.

John Merricks Sailing Trust

Approximately £200,000 in funding is available to individuals, charities and sailing organisations in the UK to help disadvantaged young people under the age of 25 to achieve their potential through the sport of sailing. The Trustees of the John Merricks Sailing Trust are seeking to award organisations with funding for legacy projects that will last for at least ten years. Preference will be given to dinghy or windsurfing initiatives, however, all proposals that fit the objectives of the charity will be considered. Individuals and organisations who wish to apply should register their interest by the 30th November 2021. Formal applications must be received by the 31st March 2022.

Inclusivity Funds

The Lloyds Bank Foundation

The Lloyds Bank Foundation has announced that its Racial Equity funding programme is open for applications. The programme supports charities with an annual income of between £25,000 and £1 million that are led by and support black, Asian, and ethnic minority (BAME) communities across England and Wales.
Two-year grants of £50,000 are available along with development support to help build organisational capacity, and improve resilience and sustainability. The funding will support initiatives which help people from BAME communities to overcome complex social issues such as:

  • Addiction and dependency
  • Asylum seekers and refugees
  • Care leavers
  • Domestic abuse
  • Homelessness and vulnerably housed
  • Learning disabilities
  • Mental health
  • Offending, prison or community service
  • Sexual abuse and exploitation
  • Trafficking and modern slavery
  • Young parents

More than half of the trustee boards of those that apply must self-identify as Black, Asian or minority ethnic. This can also include Jewish communities, Gypsy & Traveller communities and some migrant communities.

Arts and Culture Funds

Arts Council England
Capital Investment Programme


Arts Council England has launched a new Capital Investment Programme to support cultural organisations to adjust buildings and equipment so that they can operate safely post-pandemic and improve access, seize on technological opportunities, and reduce environmental impact.
Grants of between £100,000 and £750,000 will be available to charities, CIOs, CICs, statutory bodies and other public bodies who run or maintain cultural services.
Examples of the kinds of organisations that are eligible to apply include:
  • charities
  • charitable trusts
  • charitable incorporated organisations (CIOs) registered with the Charity Commission
  • charitable companies registered with the Charity Commission
  • community interest companies (CICs) registered with the CIC regulator
  • limited companies registered at Companies House who do not distribute profit to their members or shareholders
  • statutory bodies and other public bodies who run or maintain cultural services

Applicants must demonstrate that the activities they are applying for will benefit the cultural sector within England and be relevant to the widest possible number of people. Partnership applications will be accepted.
Full applications can be made between the 10th November and the 13th December 2021.

National Heritage Memorial Fund


Charities, not-for-profit and public sector organisations can apply for funding to help save nationally important heritage assets at risk of loss due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. The National Heritage Memorial Fund’s Covid-19 Response Fund will support a broad range of heritage, from fine and decorative arts to museum collections and archives, historic buildings and land, and items of industrial, transport and maritime heritage. £20 million is available to support UK organisations, with an additional £20 million available to those in England. Funding could be used to support acquisition costs, urgent conservation work, and fixed term support to enable heritage assets to be sustainably rehomed.
The fund will remain open to applications until the end of April 2023. There are no deadlines for applications.

National Archives Scoping Grant

Funding is available to museums and other public bodies, registered charities and not for profit organisations that hold collections. A Scoping Grant prides funding of up to £3,000 to produce a report that incorporates expert advice on a range of areas relating to collections management and the development of an organisation’s collection. Please note: the fund is currently heavily oversubscribed, and there is currently funding to award four Scoping Grants per application round.
The next deadline is the 29th November 2021.

Children, Family and Youth Funds

Youth Music Network

Grants of between £2,000 and £30,000 are available to schools as well as other not-for-profit organisations to support music-making and music-making related projects for children and young people facing barriers - because of who they are, where they live or what they’re going through. Projects should be co-designed by children/young people, and support one or more of Youth Music’s priority areas. These are early years; disabled young people; young adults; youth justice system; young people facing barriers; and organisations and the workforce. Funding is provided by the Arts Council England and the National Lottery and administered by the Youth Music Network. 10% match funding is required. The deadline for applications is 5pm on the 3rd December 2021. The Grants Portal will open for applications 1 month before the application deadline.

BlueSpark Foundation

Schools, colleges and community groups in England can apply for grants to support the education and development of children and young people through educational, cultural, sporting and other projects. Of particular interests are projects which will help enhance the self-confidence, team working skills and future employability of children and young people. In most cases grants will be made on a relatively small scale. Many grants will be under £2,000, most will be under £5,000 and only in a few cases will grants exceed £10,000. The funding provided by the BlueSpark Foundation and can be for physical assets (such as iPads, sports equipment, or lighting for stage productions) or for services or facilities (such as sports coaching or music or drama tuition) or simply for the provision of experiences (such as theatre visits). These examples are intended to be illustrative and not restrictive as to the funding which BlueSpark may provide to support projects.
Applications can be submitted at any time and must be made online on BlueSpark Foundation's standard application Form.

The Toy Trust

Grants of up to £5,000 are available to registered charities to fund equipment and services to support disabled and disadvantaged children under the age of 13 across the UK. The Toy Trust fund helps disadvantaged children and their families to alleviate suffering; support children through awful experiences; encourage achievement through adversity; purchase vital equipment; provide care; bolster existing initiatives; initiate brand new projects; and satisfy basic needs. Groups that have carried out some form of effective fundraising by themselves are particularly encouraged to apply.
The next deadline to apply is the 15th November 2021.

Peter Cruddas Foundation

Registered charities in England and Wales can apply for funding for projects that help disadvantaged and disengaged young people. Priority is given to projects designed to help disadvantaged and disengaged young people in the age range of 16 to 30, in England and Wales to pursue pathways to Education, Training and Employment and to support Youth work in London. There is no minimum or maximum amount and projects can be funded for more than one year.
The next closing date for applications is the 1st March 2022.

Kelly Family Charitable Trust

Registered charities that work to tackle family problems or problems facing one or more of its members can apply for grants of up to £5,000. Funding is available for both capital and revenue grants as well as grants for core funding and projects-based grants. The funding is being made available through the Kelly Family Charitable Trust which actively encourages applications from relatively new organisations to help them become established. The trust prefers to support charities whose income is below £500,000. However, larger charities with pioneering pilot projects will be considered.
The next closing date for applications is the 1st March 2022.

The Weavers Company

Small registered charities can apply for grants of up to £15,000 for projects working with young offenders; prisoners and ex-prisoners as well as young disadvantaged people at risk of criminal involvement. To be eligible for funding, local organisations such as those working in a village, estate or small town should normally have an income of less than £100,000. Those working across the UK or in larger areas should normally have an income of not more than £250,000. Grants are usually given for one year. The funding is being made available through the Weavers' Company, a textile-related, charitable and sociable organisation.
The next closing date for applications is the 19th November 2021.

Animal Funds

Jean Sainsbury Animal Welfare Trust

Charities registered in the UK and working to offer sanctuary, rehoming and rehabilitation to animals in the UK and/or internationally can apply for grants of up to £35,000. Organisations involved with the conservation of wildlife, the rescue, rehabilitation and (where possible) release of animals are also eligible to apply. The funding supports general running costs or capital purchases. The Trust encourages repeat applications from charities when further financial support might be given if funds allow. The funding is being made available through the Jean Sainsbury Animal Welfare Trust.
The next closing date for applications is the 3rd January 2022.

Armed Forces Funds
Armed Forces Covenant Fund
Force For Change


Grants of up to £10,000 are available for community projects supporting Armed Forces communities. In particular, funding is available to support Armed Forces communities to become less isolated and engage more in their local area, and to support needs that have arisen as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. To be eligible to apply, the applicant organisation must be an established registered charity or Community Interest Company (CIC) with substantial recent experience of supporting Armed Forces communities; an Armed Forces unit or base; a local authority; or a school. The funding is being made available through the Armed Forces Covenant Fund’s Force for Change programme.
The closing date for applications for this funding round is noon the 19th November 2021.

The  Veteran's Foundation

Armed Forces charities and other not-for-profit organisations can apply for grants of up to £30,000 for projects and activities supporting serving armed forces personnel, veterans, operationally qualified seafarers and their immediate families. The Veteran’s Foundation will award funding for projects lasting up to three years to organisations with low to medium income. A range of factors will be considered including the service or item being funded, the number of beneficiaries, the importance of the grant to the applicant organisation, the efficiency of the organisation, need of the beneficiaries and its urgency. The next closing date is the 12th November 2021 for consideration in the December Grants Committee meeting.

The Ministry of Defence Grant
Armed Forces Day


Grants of up to £10,000 are available to local councils, organisations, schools, ex-service organisations and individuals for Armed Forces Day events across the UK. The Ministry of Defence is providing funding for events such as tea parties, parades, big band concerts, civil war military re-enactments, and live and static demonstrations to be held on or in the weeks around the 25th June 2022. Funding could be used to cover road closures required to hold an event, decorations, flags and banners, newspaper and radio advertisements, security and first aid arrangements, and PA and communications systems. Grants can cover up to half the total cost of the event. The fund will be open to applications from the 1st November 2021 until the 1st March 2022.
