DuPage County Asks for Your Input for a New Trails Plan

DuPage County has launched a survey to create its first ever trails plan. The Friends of the East Branch DuPage River Trail have been advised the survey will be up through the end of the October, so don't delay! Question 3 offers an opportunity to say you'd like a north/south connection to, say, the Morton Arboretum along the East Branch of the DuPage River, perhaps. Just a suggestion! Here's a link: https://www.dupagetrailsplan.com/

Other actions:
  • Sign up for the email blasts on the "get involved section"
  • Mention East Branch Trail somewhere on the survey
More Funding Coming in DuPage County's 2022 Budget

Next month, we have learned DuPage County Department of Transportation will include funding in its proposed budget (Which will require approval by the DuPage County Board so urge your district's representatives to vote yes!) to study the best way to surpass the railroad tracks between Glen Ellyn and Lombard. Great news for the East Branch DuPage River Trail!
U.S. Infrastructure Bill Update

We reported in previous editions of this eblast about the roller coaster ride, known as the US Infrastructure bill. We learned of a $1.2 million member initiative (earmark) included by Congressman Sean Casten in the bill to support development and construction of this trail that was then stripped out (along with all member initiatives) by the Senate version of the bill. The bill has not yet passed as of this writing. We have no more news. Maybe next week? In the meantime, Rails-to-Trails is asking people to sign a petition to encourage investments in connected trail networks nationwide which is part of the infrastructure bill--if the Congress would just pass it. Please sign the petition!

What the Heck is EBDRT?
The East Branch DuPage River Trail (EBDRT) is a long-planned, but never fully funded hike/bike trail that runs north/south through the central part of DuPage County. The trail route is not finalized but roughly runs along the East Branch of the DuPage River which is roughly parallel on the west side of IL highway 355. The trail when it is completed is envisioned to connect the Illinois Prairie Path to the Great Western Trail and the Morton Arboretum so those seeking to travel between these three great community amenities can do so without traveling on streets shared by automobiles.

Support the funding and construction of the EBDRT! Thank You for Your Support of the East Branch DuPage River Trail! Together, this community will construct a trail for future generations to use and enjoy.
