MITP ALUM CORNER

This month's featured alum is Kareitha Gill (Cohort 9), Advisor, Monitoring and Evaluation, Caribbean Export Development Agency.

Ms. Kareitha Gill (Cohort 9)

The Masters in International Trade Policy (MITP) programme provided by the Shridath Ramphal Centre at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus offers students a rigorous yet fulfilling learning experience. I enrolled in the programme in August 2012 and was immediately taken on a roller coaster ride of facing academic trials that led to many academic triumphs. I also made life-long friends and discovered a deeper personal strength and resilience that I tapped into often during my academic journey.

The MITP programme gave me the foundation to become a driven and dedicated international trade policy professional with almost a decade of solid work experience in trade to date. In 2014, I landed the post of programme officer-services at the Caribbean Export Development Agency. Over the next three years, I worked with Caribbean Export’s services specialist to implement the Services Fiche programme under the 10th European Development Fund (EDF). It was during this period that I became versed in stakeholder engagement and development, as a member of the Services team that planned, managed and executed a plethora of trade and export development and promotion interventions for firms and business support organizations operating within the services sector across the 15 CARIFORUM States.

Over the past four years, I have continued to diversify my skill set and I am currently Caribbean Export’s advisor for monitoring and evaluation. In this capacity, I provide advice and support for the monitoring and evaluation of projects and programme under the current 11th EDF Regional Private Sector Development Programme (RPSDP). In this role, I also deliver M&E outputs in the form of reports, briefs and publications on the impact of Caribbean Export’s work to its donor partners, stakeholders, beneficiaries and the public.  As I reflect on my career development so far, I can unequivocally say that the MITP programme was instrumental in giving me the necessary academic tools, knowledge and even grit to navigate the world of trade and development. For that, I am eternally grateful.
