Dear Pastors, Partners, and Volunteers,
We are so happy to share the good news that the Ponderay City Planning Commission unanimously recommended approval for The Good Samaritan Inn Wednesday night, Oct 13. There was a bit of not-in-my-back yard opposition. We learned of the opposition Friday before the meeting, so we sent out several texts for spur of the moment requests for email letters of support. We were so grateful that 69 emails were sent in support. They were so helpful and really touched our hearts as we read through them all.
Although this was a huge step in the right direction, we have one more hurdle to cross before we can close on the land and that is final approval by the Ponderay City Council. We have been waiting for a confirmed date of our presentation to the City Council to send our this news. That date is November 15. That is three days after our scheduled closing date, but we have good reason to believe we will receive approval. The City Council's job is to evaluate our intended use against the city codes, and we are within the city codes as already determined by both the Planning Department Staff and the City Planning Commission. Therefore, it seems likely that we will receive approval despite minor opposition.
Once we receive city council approval and close on the land, we face the big challenge of raising the nearly $2M needed to build our complex of 44 studio apartments with day center that has office, classroom, and laundry. Every week we see clients who need this ministry, and our hearts break for them. Be in prayer for this ministry as we depend on God to supply this need for what He wants us to do. We as a community committed to being God's vessels to bring His help, hope, and transformation to the homeless can do this!
