Hard work is paying off...

Dear friends,

The Startup Genome Report ranked the Amsterdam-Delta as the 13th best startup ecosystem in the world, and No. 3 in Europe. We’re surrounded by cities from the West Coast: Silicon Valley, LA, and Seattle still beat us, but we rank higher than San Diego, Denver, and Salt Lake City. This article explains the explosive growth of Amsterdam. It proves that the hard work the Netherlands puts in to its startup ecosystem is paying off.

With that good news in the pocket, and some major investments in Dutch companies (see Business News below), the past few weeks finally felt as if life is back to normal. I visited Arizona and Washington State, and was able to meet many of you in real life. We are working on a November visit of the Minister for Foreign Trade and Development and are looking forward to welcoming 70 Dutch startups and scaleups at CES 2022 in January.

The end of 2021 will be more like the beginning of 2020. I wish you a beautiful fall.

Best, Dirk Janssen.

Business Updates
Pop-Up Seattle
Seattle is a city where many feel at home, including our Pop-Up Consulate. The consulate visited Seattle to strengthen the friendship with Washington State, expand our business and startup network, and renew 100+ passports of Dutch nationals, who didn’t have to travel to the consulate in San Francisco.
This cloudy city is also the city of cloud computing. After launching the Seattle Playbook, with tips and tricks for Dutch startups, they discussed with other Dutch tech entrepreneurs how we could strengthen the connection between the ecosystems of NL and Seattle. They also visited Amazon and Dutch and American companies in Washington, and had political meetings with Lieutenant Governor Denny Heck, and Agriculture Secretary Derek Sandison.

They toured the city’s cycling infrastructure with Dutch bike maker VanMoof and local cycling advocates, and learned about local cycling culture and mobility. With the City of Seattle, they discussed possible cycling and mobility collaboration.

Seattle Playbook for Start-Ups
This is your business guide to Seattle. On the first day of the Pop-Up Consulate in Seattle we presented our Seattle Playbook to local entrepreneurs and startups. This online magazine gives Dutch startups tips and tricks on how to do business in Seattle.
