Trail Talk

Trails Utah Monthly Newsletter
Welcome to Trail Talk, Trails Utah's new newsletter for all those interested in information and updates on trail projects we're involved in and relevant trail news from our partners.

Trails Utah is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to trails advocacy, planning, funding, sustainable design and construction in needed areas throughout Utah. Well-designed and constructed trails,  and the open spaces they connect us to,  are important for promoting our overall well-being and creating a sense of community, as well as protecting our natural resources.

We hope you find Trail Talk educational and even entertaining!

Trail Updates

What's new with our trails?
In our first newsletter last month, we shared some of our past projects as well as projects in the works at various stages. This month, we'll start with updates on each of our trails currently under construction, so you have the latest info on what we are up to.

Rattlesnake Trail
We are nearing completion of this connector trail, thanks to professional trail builders Nature Trails, LLC, our faithful and talented crew building this trail, as well as the Upper Millcreek trail, both in Millcreek Canyon. Find out more.

Parley's Pointe Trail
We are finishing the  main loop, bringing the trail down to Lakeline Drive. Still to build are a set of stacked loops that will give trail users access to the main loop Grandeur Peak to the Parley's Pointe section of the Bonneville Shoreline Trail. Find out more.

Upper Millcreek / Great Western Trail
The upper Pipeline Trail in upper Millcreek Canyon is now complete, except for a new bridge across from the Elbow Fork Trailhead. This bridge is the final piece to this 4-year-long puzzle. Trails Utah is working with the Forest Service to help with the cost and installation of the bridge so that it can take place as soon as possible in 2022. Find out more.

Herriman Hills Trails
Trails Utah is now working with the Herriman Hills Trails Alliance and Herriman City to plan for and build two new trails in 2022. Stay tuned for more updates in future newsletters. Find out more.

Where have we been?

In addition to our ongoing work to plan, raise funds for and build our trails, we also like to get out into our communities and share who we are and what we are doing.
In the past month, Trails Utah has participated in several events to help spread the word about who we are and what we do in and for our communities:

Utah Outdoor Recreation Summit and Utah Trails Forum in Logan
This was a wonderful opportunity to meet people involved with trails and outdoor recreation from the local to the state level, attend breakout sessions, listen to keynote speakers and visit a multitude of vendor booths hosted by Utah non-profits, for-profits and governmental agencies.

Utah High School Mountain Bike Race (NICA) at Eagle Mountain
Here we shared the work we've been doing on mountain bike trails throughout the area and collected feedback on what trails are on the wish lists of locals. This was a great time and we met lots of competitors, coaches and multi-generational trail enthusiasts.

Emigration Canyon Watershed Celebration in Salt Lake City
Here we shared our plans for trails in the canyon and collected input as to what that community is interested in seeing for trails in the coming years.

Advocacy Updates

What are we doing to advocate for trails and the benefits they provide to all of us?

We've joined a new crew in town - Salt Lake City Trails Alliance (SLCTA). This group is devoted to celebrating shared access to trails in the foothills of Salt Lake City. They are especially interested in communicating the need for more trails that can serve a variety of trail users in the Foothills Natural Area, and they have come together in response to the recent controversy surrounding new trail development in the foothills. They do not yet have an online presence, but are working to establish one. Stay tuned...
