Monash Researchers Outline Predictions, and Some Answers, to the Expected COVID Tsunami into our Hospital System

A paper outlining the severe problems facing Australia’s hospital system in the coming months as COVID-19 cases increase – as well as some solutions – has been published in Emergency Medicine Australasia. The plan incorporates practical steps to manage what is expected to be thousands of people in the hospital system, both with COVID-19 and with other non-COVID health issues.

Radar Used in Breast Cancer Surgery in Australian First

With millimetre accuracy, radar technology has guided surgeons to a breast cancer tumour, in an Australian-first at Epworth Richmond. Melbourne woman, Jodie Talone, was the first patient in Australia to have a tumour removed with the assistance of the SCOUT radar technology.

Cancer Support Referral for Health Professionals

Cancer Council’s nurses provide information and support to people affected by cancer. If you have a patient or carer that needs support, please fill in the referral form and one of our cancer nurses will contact them to see how we can help. In addition, please let them know that they, or anyone affected by cancer can call our nurses on 13 11 20 (cost of a local call), Monday to Friday, 9-5pm.

New State-wide Service – MRI-guided radiation therapy at Austin Health

Victorian’s with cancer can now be referred to the Olivia Newton John Cancer Centre at Austin Health for MRI-guided radiation therapy, even if they receive cancer treatment elsewhere. This service is ideal for cancers that are difficult to treat due to anatomical changes or poor visibility. It can target a tumour clearly and avoid healthy tissue to tailor treatment to patients in real-time.
