Day of the Dead Concert
The Pasadena Senior Center hosts a joyful Dia de los Muertos concert by the Susie Hansen Latin Trio on October 24, from 3:00 PM till 5:00 PM. Everyone who attends is encouraged to bring a photo of a loved one who has passed away to place on the ofrenda. The concert is free for members and only $5 for nonmembers. Registration and COVID-19 protocol observance are required.
All About Art: José Posada and his Calaveras
Your family is invited to learn about famed Mexican illustrator José Posada and his iconic skulls (calaveras). You'll also make your very own calaveras book plates. It all happens on October 23, from 3:00 PM till 5:00 PM at the Allendale Branch Library.
Take & Make: Haunted Beads
Get your Tween and Teen ready to make some spooktacular melty bead designs with the Santa Catalina Branch Library. Signups for supply kits open on October 14 and run through October 31 or while supplies last.
Sew It Begins: Pennant Banners
The Teens and adults in your family who love the sew are invited to join the zoom class to learn how to make pennant banners - just in time for the playoffs! The lesson is on October 25, from 3:30 PM till 5:30 PM. Registration is required. See the event listing for supplies.
Afternoon Games
The whole family is invited to the Villa Parke Community Center Branch Library to play games, from board games to giant dominos. The fun happens on October 12 and 26, from 2:00 PM till 4:00 PM.
Family Fun Films
Villa Parke Community Center Branch Library is queuing a movie good for the whole family on Thursdays from 3:30 PM till 5:30 PM. Call the library at 626-744-6510 for the specific title.
Take & Make: Paper Roll Totems
Your kids can learn about Totem Poles and make one of their own. Supply kits are available for pickup from the San Rafael Branch Library. Kit reservations open October 31 by phone at 626-744-7270. This is a month-long project available while supply kits last.
Take & Make: Tiny Art Show
Everyone in your family can take part in this art show! Pick up a mini canvas and some paint supplies from the Santa Catalina Branch Library. Then, return your creation by November 30 to be included in the library's Tiny Art Show! Supply kit reservations open on November 4.
Spooky Shadow Play
Your Tweens (ages 8-12) are invited to learn about the history of shadow plays and then make one of their own. Starting with creating a puppet stage, they will then write a story and build characters. Once done, they can film their play to be shown on the library's social media channel. It all happens on October 23, from 3:00 PM till 4:30 PM.
Super Smash Fridays!
In the Altadena Libary's Community Room, teens (grades 8-12) smash the competition every other Friday starting October 1, from 4:00 PM till 5:00 PM. Console and controllers are provided by the library. Teens just bring their friends!
Tween Switch Hour
Suppose you have a Tween (ages 8-12) who enjoys playing a Nintendo Switch. In that case, the Altadena Library has some fun for them every other Thursday through November 18, from 4 PM till 5 PM. Things kick off with Mario Kart racing on September 23. The library has a limited number of loaner Switches and copies of Mario Kart for kids to use at the event on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Tween Gaming Hour
Your Tween (ages 8-12) are invited to an hour of gaming fun every other Thursday, from 4:00 PM till 5:00 PM. A variety of games are played, including Among Us, Mario Kart, and Smash Brothers. Your Tween can bring their own tablet or Nintendo Switch. In November, the fun is on November 4 and 18.
Fall Crafts
Your Teen (grades 6-12) can get into the spirit of fall with some seasonal arts and crafts on November 1, from 5:00 PM till 6:00 PM at the Monrovia Public Library.
