Have you signed up to take new
Minehead Gift Card?

Minehead BID is pleased to announce the launch of a new campaign to promote Minehead's Gift Card in the run-up to Christmas, and the appointment of Gift Card Ambassador, Sally Turner.

The Minehead Gift Card was launched in April 2021. Funding was agreed for up to 80 Minehead businesses to take par in this programme for three years by the Emergency Town Centre Recovery Fund (ETCRF), a fund establised by Somerset West and Taunton Council and administerd by Minehead BID. There is no cost for businesses - items paid for using the card will come through as regular Mastercard transactions.

The initial take-up of the scheme was very positive and a good number of businesses joined soon after the launch to be able to accept the card.

Now that the very busy Summer season Minehead enjoyed is slowing down, it is the right time to restart the process of attracting new businesses to join the scheme and promoting the sales of the cards in preparation for the Christmas gifts season.

At the latest ETCRF steering group meeting a proposal for a new marketing scheme to promote the Gift Card was approved, with the following key aims:
  • To make contact with and visit business owners to encourage their sign-up
  • To identify a number of businesses to have a stock of Gift Cards to make it as easy as possible for customers to pick them up
  • To produce supporting promotional material, such as posters and fliers to make it clear where the cards are available
  • To encourage customers to appreciate the benefits of giving a gift Card:
    • it provides more choice than any single-branded gift card.
    • It’s a great alternative to Amazon, Google and Apple gift cards and supports the local economy.
  • Encourage companies and large employers to purchase gift cards as gifts for their own staff.
Minehead BID officers have found it difficult to dedicate the time required for this project so an essential element of this proposal is the appointment of a Gift Card Ambassador, namely Sally Turner, Manager of the Minehead Tourist Information Centre.

  • Sally will be contacting businesses in the next few weeks with details of the scheme and will be available to visit and assist those who wish to join, which is a very straightforward process.
  • Sally will also be available for any existing members of the scheme who may have questions or require assistance.
  • Stock of the cards will be delivered to shops wishing to have them, with suitable point of sale information including window stickers.
Advertising for sales of the Gift Card will continue in the press and on social media and this is vital as we approach the Christmas shopping season.
If you have any questions or would like Sally to contact you please let me know.
