Dear Friends,

We are approaching the festive season again. Unfortunately, new cases of infection are also increasing again, so we have decided to skip our Christmas party again this year.

Instead, we would like to offer a Rosa Christmas After Work at the Christmas market as an alternative, as it is a bit safer in the fresh air. We would therefore be delighted if you would like to join us on 17 December at 7pm at the Place de la Constitution.

And even if you haven't heard much from us in the last month, there is a lot to report: for one, Luxembourg Pride Week 2022 was chosen as a key event in the presentation of the Esch2022 programme at the Press Day. Secondly, there was an informal meeting between representatives of our board with Cardinal Hollerich. Finally, we also sent our statement to the Chambre des Députés in an analysis of the text of the revision of the Constitution.

We have also completed our work on the Luxembourg Chapter in the ILGA Europe Annual Report and our Trans Working Group is currently working on a very exciting project with ITGL and the Ministry of Family Affairs, Integration and the Greater Region. Our project on "LGBTIQ+ history in Luxembourg" is also currently progressing so that the timetable for the Luxembourg Pride Week 2022 exhibition can still be met. Would you like to join one of our working groups? Then get in touch with us!

Enjoy reading and best regards,
the board of Rosa Lëtzebuerg

STATEMENT ON THE REVISION TEXT N°7755 ON CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT
Read this article in german, french

Rosa Lëtzebuerg asbl has issued a statement on the revision text N°7755 of the Parliamentary Institutional Commission. The focus was on Article 11 of Chapter II, which deals with fundamental rights.

We came to the conclusion that the thrust is the right one, but that Article 11 is too vague in places. Particularly from the perspective of the queer community, we miss the listing of possible motives for discrimination in section 2. This would have the advantage that rights that have been hard-won over many years cannot easily be undone by a future government by simply amending the law.

Moreover, the proposed constitutional amendment would cement the dual gender model for many years to come. Especially with regard to the efforts of the Ministry of Justice, which is currently examining the introduction of the third gender option, the constitution would already be obsolete before it can come into force.

However, the decision of the drafters to establish the right to found a family as an enforceable fundamental right is nothing less than a milestone. Not only would Article 9 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union be incorporated into a national constitution for the first time, it would also serve as a model for other countries in Europe.

MEETING BETWEE CARDINAL HOLLERICH AND ROSA LËTZEBUERG

After Rosa Lëtzebuerg criticised the words of Auxiliary Bishop Leo Wagner in an open letter to Cardinal Hollerich, there was now an informal meeting between representatives of the Rosa Lëtzebuerg Board of Directors and Cardinal Hollerich.

It was an open and friendly conversation, which leaves room for cooperation on various points. We will communicate more details together with the Cardinal in due course.

Although there are still different views on marriage, we are pleased with the promise that the Catholic Church in Luxembourg will not sanction priests who wish to bless same-sex couples. Furthermore, we welcome the Cardinal's statement, which he also repeated in a radio interview, that he accepts homosexual people because he believes that "God created them that way".
