17 Local Governments Included in New Quarantine Area for Polyphagous Shot-Hole Borer
|
|
The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) is responding to detections of the Polyphagous shot-hole borer in the Perth area. Those within the Quarantine Area (QA) must not remove any PSHB host wood or green waste material outside the QA without prior approval. The Quarantine Area Notice for the exotic pest beetle has extended to include 17 Local Government Areas. Resources are available for Local Governments in PSHB risks, detection, reporting and advice to local communities.

2021-22 Urban Canopy Grant Program: Plantings Underway
WALGA has partnered with the Water Corporation to deliver urban canopy grant funding to Local Governments, which aims to increase tree canopy in high urban heat risk areas.

Local Government authorities are eligible to apply for community stewardship and collaboration grants to support community-based projects that serve to protect and restore the local environment.
Preparing Australian Communities - Local Stream Program Funding
The Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources has announced funding for locally identified and locally led projects to improve the resilience of communities against natural hazards. Local Governments with eligible projects can apply from Friday, 10 December.
Changes to the Environmental Protection Act 1986
On 22 October 2021, proclaimed amendments under Stage 2 of the Environmental Protection Amendment Act 2020 came into effect. WALGA has previously published a report identifying the changes relevant to Local Government.
State Government Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) Information Pack
The State Government released an Information Pack, highlighting key policy commitments and actions to achieve continuous improvement in social and environmental outcomes for WA, which supports the Australian adoption of the United Nationals Sustainable Development Goals.
