Notes From The Curator
Our show of Keith Schneider's sculpture continues through December 5. This show combines his mixed media works alongside his ceramics, which mimic these alternative materials. Keith explains that he is interested in objects that wear their history or appear to do so. With clay, I try to create a sense of age comparable to that of actual objects I am attracted to. These collected found objects and studio ephemera are then used in a separate but connected body of work. These strange, sculpted apparitions relate directly to their ceramic cousins, linked through materials and process like a genetic marker.
In the background we have been busy framing for our new November show, "New Editions". We invited our represented printmakers to create a new print edition to premier in this show. Each has given us number 1, 2 and 3 in their editions. We have created a single portfolio containing all the number 1 prints, which is great way to begin, or boost a collection. The second in each edition is available individually unframed, and the third is framed and will form the gallery exhibit. The show opens for the Second Saturday Art Walk on November 13. However the works are available now from our website.
As part of the project we also invited the artists to provide us with content to create a series of videos about the prints in this show. Check out the "New Edition" videos below.
Also watch for news about our up and coming December show "Twelve Cups". The show will run December 11 - 24, but will go live on our website on December 4.
