Doctor Answering Questions Online About Kids and COVID-19 Vaccine

Children ages 5 to 11 are now able to get the COVID-19 vaccine from Pfizer and the Santa Clara County Public Health Department is holding a webinar at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 10, where residents can ask Dr. Gerardo Solorio-Cortez any questions they have about the vaccine and children.
I encourage any parents with questions or concerns to watch the webinar on Facebook or Youtube and to submit questions by email before it begins at COVID19@eoc.sccgov.org.
Approximately 167,000 children between the ages of 5 and 11 live in Santa Clara County and will be eligible for vaccination.
The pediatric Pfizer vaccine is administered in similar fashion to the adult version, with two doses spaced 21 days apart. It is one-third the size of the adult vaccine.
Unlike when adult vaccines were first authorized at the end of 2020, the Public Health Department does not expect there to be any shortages of the pediatric version.
More than 73% of eligible Santa Clara County residents of all ages have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19. We remain a national leader in vaccination rates.
However, there are still thousands of eligible Santa Clara County residents who have not gotten vaccinated.
COVID-19 vaccines are safe, effective, free, and widely available to everyone 12 and older.
All County Health System mass vaccination sites and all general community-based mobile sites are vaccinating anyone ages 5 and older. Children under age 18 old need to provide a signed consent form from a parent or legal guardian. For County-operated sites, the consent form is available here.
The most up-to-date information about how and where to get vaccinated can be found at www.sccfreevax.org. COVID-19 vaccinations are available with or without an appointment at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds.
Residents without access to the internet can make vaccination appointments by phone for the County Health System sites through the Valley Connection Call Center at 408-970-2000 or by dialing 2-1-1.
The Call Center is open Monday through Friday from 7am to 9pm and Saturday and Sunday from 8am to 4:30pm. Assistance is available in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, and multiple other languages.
You can also get vaccinated at pharmacies throughout the County, including many Walgreen's, CVS, and Costco locations.

Beginning November 1, traffic court hearings resumed at the Santa Clara Traffic Court facility located at 1095 Homestead Rd, Santa Clara. All traffic matters (except for misdemeanors) will be heard in Department 56 of the Santa Clara Traffic Court facility.
Traffic arraignments, trials, and attorney trials will take place Monday through Friday. Traffic misdemeanors will be heard in Department 42 at the Hall of Justice in San Jose on Friday mornings.
All active courtroom locations, including Department 56, have been outfitted with Plexiglas partitions. Janitorial and sanitization services at all facilities have been increased and enhanced, including the use of electrostatic disinfectant sprayers in the courtrooms and other high-traffic areas.
The Traffic Court Clerk’s Office reopened to the public in February 2021 and is available for in-person assistance during court hours. If you have questions about a traffic violation or Traffic Court, we recommend visiting the Traffic Court webpage.

To request a traffic fine reduction, please consider using the MyCitations: Ability to Pay Tool, https://mycitations.courts.ca.gov.
This tool allows court users to look up their traffic citation online, answer a series of simple questions, and submit a request to the Court for a possible reduction in the amount owed based on their financial situation. Users can also request a payment plan, more time to pay, or community service. This new option saves time and resources and allows the public to make requests without the need to appear in Court.

The Santa Clara County Division of Equity and Social Justice is offering mini grants of up to $2,500 for individuals and groups to lead activities that empower vulnerable, marginalized communities and address the concerning rise of hate incidents and acts in Santa Clara County.
These grants are intended for community members and groups, including but not limited to, grass root organizations, activists, neighborhood groups, and community-based organizations.
Proposed activities/projects for grant awards are meant to promote cross-cultural understanding, relationship building activities among community members, learning about allyship to support those affected by hate and bias, and/or educating the community about resources and services that address the concerning rise of hate incidents and acts in Santa Clara County.
DESJ will offer flexible, easy-to-access funding for community members and groups. The mini grant award process is uniquely designed to be accessible, inclusive and welcoming to community members and maximizes opportunities for innovative, community driven activities.
Applications open August 30, 2021 – June 30, 2022 or until funds are exhausted, whichever comes first.
